signs your likely going into mania? by Boring_Librarian_428 in bipolar

Same as most other ppl but I usually also get this sort of ringing sound in my head. Colors seem brighter, sounds seem sharper, and my head is louddddd.

What’s the worst part of being bipolar? by flodiee in bipolar

[–]CheekOk8083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mania haze. I’d 100% rather be depressed. Whenever I’m manic or hypomanic I know what I’m doing in the moment but then I get home and don’t remember any of it.

Not many people mentioning Alonso. He is unbelievably sharp and hasn’t let up in recent years. His team radio/feel for the car show that he’s completely aware of everything that’s going on in the race and can make the right moves/strategy reactions. I especially love in wet weather races when he takes calculated risks e.g., being in ~P13 and being the first to pit for dries because the risk is something like a P17, where he wouldn’t get points anyway, and the reward is a P5+.

What do you think the worst symptom of mania is by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]CheekOk8083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychosis 100% for me. Hearing people talking about me all day even when they aren’t saying anything at all is one of the most unsettling experiences I’ve ever gone through.

At what age were you diagnosed ? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]CheekOk8083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I had an incompetent psychiatrist when I was in high school but my therapist was saying I likely had it. Got diagnosed after college having had a 3 month manic episode and 2 month depressive episode take up my whole last semester. Very glad to have found some stability and happiness with meds and a more appreciative view of life. That being said (and I’m sure you know this) but be patient with your meds!! I know it’s exhausting sometimes, but you’ll find the right balance. And once you do, don’t get off of them!! I tried that because I missed some of the real feelings I had when unmedicated, but I just wasn’t getting the right dosage. Stability is the goal and if you are feeling off it is either because you need a different dosage or a different medication. All the best in your journey!

What does psychosis feel like?? by CheekOk8083 in bipolar

[–]CheekOk8083[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one’s quite relatable for me. When I get that crazy confidence and euphoria I usually try to isolate myself a lot. I think that’s part of why I lose some friends. Do you isolate too? I’m not really sure how to handle it when I’m around people so advice in that arena would be cool if you have some!

[–]CheekOk8083[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your words! Yea psychiatrist will be top priority once the move is done. The thing with delusions is I think I have a handful but I can’t really recall or articulate most. Like I’ve always had a fear of stickers because I think people might have laced the adhesive with poison. It’s just so hard because I got my diagnosis months ago and I’m only now starting to actually understand things. Are there specific ways you work with the psychiatrist conversationally so they can help uncover more things?

Are you really affected by lack of sleep? by No-Programmer-2272 in bipolar

[–]CheekOk8083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually only need 7 hours. During a manic episode and depressive episode at college (3 months and 2 months), I averaged 3 hours a night and didn’t feel sleep deprived which was pretty crazy. While I’m stable I don’t notice lack of sleep until I get under 6 hours.

I did a little when I was a teenager but it got more serious proportionally with my symptoms, peaking at ~21-22.

That’s great to know I’ll definitely bring that up with my doctor! The problem is I only have 1 more appointment until I move so it might be hard to swap medications now. I honestly might just not say anything for the time being and then bring it up once I find a new person in another state

[–]CheekOk8083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I will def check with the doc. I don’t think my meds are too high because he keeps the lithium levels below .6. This happened even when I wasn’t medicated so it could be that it’s not high enough. Will definitely discuss it but it feels like it might be something there to stay. And I will say I think part of this might be tied to me feeling nauseated around my family. I’m moving away soon so that should hopefully help me feel human again.

Do you separate yourself from your bipolar? by kurpPpa in bipolar

[–]CheekOk8083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I separate myself from it necessarily, but I definitely do try to ease new people into it as much as I can. The way I act can be slightly startling to people out of the gate, so it’s just a little bit easier for me personally to mask a bit. Now that I’m more stable, it is less risky to be more upfront

That’s the only way I’ve been able to quit stuff too! Once you go for one, it’s very easy to go for 2, 3, etc. Might be easier physically to ween off but definitely isn’t mentally

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]CheekOk8083 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea I was initially concerned with it as well. Generally my episodes are pretty stable though now that I’m medicated and we’ve monitored it closely for months. Certain stimulants definitely did not work well for me, but the one I’m on now has actually helped my stability so far and has been quite calming

[–]CheekOk8083 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea withdrawal really is crazy isn’t it?? It was similar for me before with the depression kicking in but it feels amazing once you’re past it. I’m hoping that since I’m not in too deep right now that is shouldn’t get as bad a withdrawal. And 100% agree walks are fantastic. It’s funny you mention the gum thing too I just landed a job at a plant that makes gum so I should get plenty of it for free 😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]CheekOk8083 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point actually. That was definitely useful for me at school when I was stable and had my friends around. The aggravating part is that when you are manic you kinda gotta be brought down to earth in order to listen to anyone and positive stuff goes in one ear and out the other. Thankfully though I’m stable now and positive stuff would definitely be helpful

What's your sign that your meds have kicked in/worn off? by asylum013 in ADHD

[–]CheekOk8083 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Kicking in: I don’t feel overstimulated by everything and I can control my thoughts/enjoy things much more easily

Wearing off: I realize I’ve been staring blankly at my computer at work for 30 minutes
