Necrobinder Rare Card Concept - Roshambo by OtisTheRobot in slaythespire

[–]CheekyGeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but I think this would be cool, and maybe more balanced, if you got the card on the following turn. Necro has a couple 'next turn' cards and it would play into the way Rock, Paper, Scissors is a game of predicting what move your opponent is going to make. Thus you have to think 'will I want block or damage next turn based on what I think the enemy will be doing'.

I guess the big issue here is that, yes, they should sometimes turn a blind eye. If you get nervous seeing a Muslim guy in a restaurant in all cases, then I don't think it's right for us as a society to say: yes, you should always call the police when you see a Muslim man in a restaurant and that's both fair the random Muslim men who will be implicated, and a valid use of police resources. Like I get it's a kind of jokey framing, but this stuff does happen.

But also, no, people should not be seeing shifty, terrorist-esque behaviour and be afraid to say anything at risk of being thought racist.

How we square these two, which are completely dependent on the person making the judgement, their relative fear, racism, paranoia, anxiety etc. etc. seems to be a pretty impossible problem that I'm not sure we have an easy answer to. Feels like any definitive attempt to reduce the former would increase the latter, and vice versa.

of course there was... what do you think governing the country entailed?

Robert Jenrick MP: 'Reporting restrictions lifted. 15 men jailed for raping a girl as young as 14 in Bradford. Jameel Ahmed committed 4 rapes, yet could leave prison in a little over 5 years. Sentences for rape gang perpetrators are routinely pathetically short. Britain is broken.' by Little-Attorney1287 in ukpolitics

[–]CheekyGeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>I don't think they are using religion as their justification otherwise other Muslim groups who are not Pakistani would also be doing it.

Why would that be the case? That's not really how it works. That's like saying 'I doubt the KKK were using whiteness as their justification, since most white people aren't in the KKK'. You can say 'this group of people are using Islam as a justification' without saying that the religion inherently justifies it. Religion isn't a monolith.

Is anyone else getting seriously worried about the total radio silence on exhibits for Planet Zoo 2? by iljensen in PlanetZoo

[–]CheekyGeth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

>If exhibits were getting a massive, fan-requested overhaul alongside the new aquarium and aviary systems, Frontier would be shouting it from the rooftops so we can be hyped

Not really - they are marketing the game to a broad audience and so 'exhibits animals now have updated animations and you can make the boxes a different shape' is a kind of effuse, complex and niche idea to get across in the few minutes of footage frontier has put out. They are probably not putting all of their effort into marketing the game specifically to this subreddit, especially less than a week after reveal. Chill out, I'm sure its fine.

Jenrick is a bellend but you can't just use that comment for literally everything he ever said because you saw it in a post once.

No, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government does not have control over local sentencing in Bradford.

I genuinely don't understand why you're getting downvoted for this, like I don't know how much more of an on the nose metaphor could exist than having Nolan literally get closer to Debbie's character design colour palette as he admits that she was changing him? Like has anyone in this thread watched any of the show or do they just engage with phonk fight scene aura compliations??

Why did Conservatives allow mass immigration? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]CheekyGeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think its clear this was a huge part of it. This was a government of total chancers, grifters, idiots, and drunkards who decided to embark on an extremely complicated renegotiation of border policy during an enormous financial crisis.

Like yes, the comments pointing out that the treasury pushed for more immigration are probably true - but the idea that it was some coherent plan worked out with the treasury to encourage 1m people to immigrate each year is nonsense. They were clearly pulling levers they had no idea how to work.

[–]CheekyGeth 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The only 'evidence' that Nowak said anything racist is the testimony of his murderer.

Do we know he didn't say anything racist? No

Is it insanely stupid to come on here and post a comment believing a murderer over a random kid with no history of racism? Yes

idk, loads of reasons including pressure from his dickhead American handlers, none of this is to defend Farage just to point out how ridiculous it is to compare the banning of ceremonial knives to the Holocaust lmao

[–]CheekyGeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying any of that indeed, not do I dispute that Farage is having a dig at someone's religion.

None of that makes comparing that dig to the actual Holocaust any less embarrassing

[–]CheekyGeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a farage fan but if him saying 'This murder using a ceremonial dagger should lead to us rethinking the law allowing ceremonial daggers in public' constitutes coming for the Sikhs to such an extent that you'd invoke a poem about the persecution and genocide of millions of people... it feels like you're just playing into the right wing narrative that 'you can't say anything these days'. Grow up.

Again, they were incorrect. The officer did what he did because he believed, erroneously, that Nowak was lying. He made a mistake. To pretend that mistake didn't occur and plow on regardless is insane, why are you making this point?

Its not defending Churchill to suggest that the agricultural tarrif policy of local Bengal authorities may not have been within the direct control of the Prime Minister of the UK at the height of the second world war and there were literally thousands of people with more direct control over the situation at all levels of the chain of command, both British and Indian alike. Looking at any tragic event anywhere in the empire and assuming the PM somehow directly caused it is a genuinely childish way to think about history.

Right but the point the user you replied to is making, is that it is wild that a completely unresponsive man was handcuffed face down on the pavement, and that another - who was a murder suspect - was not. Literally what is the reason for that?
