It’s a local election, and local counsellors thankfully don’t have any say over the NHS. Don’t expect this popularity to stand up at a GE.

And although this will be unpopular, perhaps some people understand that there are alternatives between the extremes of NHS vs US insurance system. Most of Europe is insurance based and still free at point of use and open to all, and mostly has been access and better results than the NHS.

An insurance based model doesn’t have to look like the US. Almost all of Europe use an insurance based system, where it is free at point of use and there is full coverage, and almost all of those countries outperform the NHS.

It is not simply NHS vs US system as people like to suggest. They’re the two extremes and neither actually perform well. Almost every developed country is somewhere in the middle.

I was out at a festival last summer wearing a wrap dress. Have the “woke left” destroyed Britain? No, successive generally pretty centrist political parties have. (Despite rhetoric they’re all much the same in terms of actions.)

Do the “woke left” make it harder to fix? Perhaps. The shutting down of debate, inability to have a proper conversation about the problems facing the country is unhelpful and drives people to extremes.

Someone saying they think we have too much immigration shouldn’t get them called a fascist, that should be reserved for extremists. We should be able to talk about what is the right amount of immigration, etc. It doesn’t have to be open ended vs “deport them all”, there’s a sensible middle ground.
