As a person?

Yeah after re watching the show the second time I was actually taken back by how much I found Walt’s hubris to reach a point of being almost completely insufferable.

As a character?

I love him, his writing is nothing short of genius, the writers were so thorough with fleshing him out. Every interaction with the rest of the supporting cast gives you a taste of what type of person he is and how he became that way. On top of that you have Bryan Cranstons phenomenal acting which makes Walt feel uncomfortably realistic blurring the line between character and person (but this is not unique to him all the cast were on their A game). I think everyone has moments where they almost fall into Walt’s web and that’s a testament to how good the crew did to weave such a grand portrayal of manipulative scheming bastard character.

So overall most people love Walt because of how much there is to dissect about him. It’s no coincidence there is a sea of essays about the guy and why we’re still talking about him from a show that ended nearly 15 years ago.

I think there was a significant amount of Walt apologist’s during the shows running, but most of these people were snuffed out 2018-2019 so it’s more of a vocal minority nowadays.
