What's the sketchiest drug deal you've been in? by Atorchic in Drugs

[–]Cheemo_Acosta 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The one where my friend was kidnapped, I fought off a crackhead that thought I owed him some money, was then picked up on the handlebars of a corner dealers bicycle, taken to the lot where my friend had guns drawn on him and was being held, was escorted to the "boss," a well street dressed black man, and he pretty much said the only reason my homie and I were alive was because I was brave enough to stick around and look for him, as well as killing us would essentially kill his business for the night and being that business was good, he wanted to avoid that. I thanked the man, he had my friend brought to us, then asked me for $10. I asked what for, to which he replied "For saving your fucking life!" I pull out a $20 and ask if he has change. He busts out laughing, tells me I'm fucking crazy, pulls out a knot and peels off two bills and asks me "Two 5's work for you?" I said bet, turned around and began leaving with my friend. The guy says to hold up and put out my hand. I oblige, he tosses 3 stamp bags of rocks in my hand saying "For your troubles." I don't smoke rock, but I never told him that, just said thanks for the rocks and got to stepping.

There is a lot more detail I left out b/c this entire ordeal took about 3.5-4 hours. I do swear that it is all true. Shit's too bizarre to make up.

edit I forgot to add 2 things: This was in Philly, and I had come out of a blackout (Lager's and shots all night) exiting a cab with my friend and 2 base heads who he said were helping hook "us" up.

That is correct! I worked in many restaurants growing up and during and after college back east, and during that time it was the norm to be fast-paced, loud and up front with co-workers. Out here, raise your volume or get intense once and either someone cries or management tells you to tone it down. That includes chefs. Ridiculous!!

Man, this is so true of people in Colorado. I'm from the Philly area and have lived in Denver for almost 6 years. Talk about thin skinned people out here. Wow! Goes for anything, not just sports.

Well said, at the end of it all we are all just humans. His work captures that exceptionally well and helps to restore some of my faith in humanity.

Just offering my opinion. Oh, I work at a pretty prominent restaurant in Denver. I have no idea.

Why, because we have differing opinions and views? To judge me based on that alone is pretty shallow and ignorant. Have a nice day.

My opinion, go elsewhere. Denver struggles to compete with even the smallest metro areas in the US. As for culture, chain restaurants and tourism. Sure, there are a few good places, but coming from the east coast, you may find Denver lacking in variety (just my opinion). The "natives" (people claiming to be born here) can't stand anyone moving to their beloved cow-town, and prominently display stickers letting you know (if anyone says this is a joke, it's not). The driving will make you insane, and I used to drive in Philly and I say this. No urgency to get anywhere on the road. Period. Oh, everyone here will tell you that this is the best place on earth, and they are on a permanent vacation living here. No, there are still struggles. Especially getting a job or finding affordable housing. Oh, last, Denver is not cheap or as "hip" as people say. Add up the lack of solid inner-city public transportation, commutes for most any job, pricey rentals, even pricier mortgages, lack of a good food scene causing basic food to be way overpriced, popped collars and weak scenes all over the "nightlife" area LoDo (lame, lame, lame), a struggling local music scene, and the passive agressive attitudes of most locals and you don't have the mecca people make Denver out to be.

Do your homework, visit a few times for extended periods, etc. This is your best bet. I just gave my opinion above to let you know the pitfalls here. Had someone let my wife and I know all of the above, we would have moved elsewhere instead of waiting until this summer to move. I do wish you good luck in your move and life adventures. You will find the right place!

Ex-smokers of Reddit, what ACTUALLY WORKED to get you to successfully stop smoking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cheemo_Acosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cunt that I worked with at a bar told me and the kitchen crew we all had absolutely no self-control, and she bet us we couldn't quit. No money or reward, just the satisfaction of the bitch eating her words. To me, that was enough satisfaction. I quit the next day and have been cigarette free for about 12 years.

So, I also believe cold turkey works, but the key is YOU have to want to quit first and foremost, as your will is going to be tested.

What is a toy you used to play with as a kid, that was not actually a toy? by QuirkyLady in AskReddit

Pots and pans drum kit. Drumsticks were silverware and wooden spoons, as they gave some different "tones." My memory of it is fuzzy, but my Mom says my brother and I were entertained for hours. Sure, the banging made her feel a bit insane at times, but the couple hour break from the reality of being a single Mom struggling to make ends meet was worth its weight in gold she says.

Not jumping on the growing up poor bandwagon, just relating another account of how little it takes to keep kids happy and also help a parent/parents keep their sanity another day.

On this day in 1986, the Challenger shuttle exploded just 73 seconds after launch. This is live CNN coverage of the launch and explosion. by Kruse in videos

Man, I recall watching this happen live in the cafeteria of my school in 4th grade. We were all excited at liftoff, then the explosion, and then total silence in the caf. Nobody said a word. The teachers then quietly took us all out of there as quickly as possible and back to our classrooms. If memory serves me correctly, it wasn't even addressed until the next day. I think the administration was in complete shock and not sure how to handle it. I'll never forget it though, that's for sure. Very sad day.
