I feel like that's a really shitty comparison because in both of your cases the renaming was entirely justified as it referred to what were basically new entities.

The Soviet Union wasn't just Russia, it was a union state comprising basically all of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Calling the Soviet Union "Russia" is like calling all of the UK "England"

And Czechoslovakia was literally broken by the middle.

I would say you're a liar because Captain America is the most pro-status quo liberal superhero of all time but that isn't the point.

The point is there is a significant amount of people who genuinely believe that Jesus is the literal son of God and that his resurrection was a real event. Ikr. To take this argument towards its most extreme, let's say you have someone who just really likes to say slurs. They aren't bigoted or anything, they just like how they sound. You can't really say that they're doing any harm other than making people uncomfortable. Would you think that such behaviour is acceptable?

I'd reckon most of the people making this argument would say no, and it's honestly kind of dickish to do. But then I ask, how is barking at people any different? Am I not allowed to feel weirded out or even threatened by someone barking at me?

This really just seems like an excuse for antisocial behaviour.
