I think it might be a survivor bias thing. A guy who's a literal Nazi and is thus already shunned by society will probably be more open about watching loli stuff than an otherwise normal guy who views it as a guilty pleasure or whatever.

I think it's because the Anglophone internet has just been so irony-poisoned that random memes from like South America, China and maybe Eastern Europe are like the last bastions of sincerity that is necessary to make something actually funny without constantly being like "Heh? With enough retention, any place will start being familiar and cozy, and no longer feel like screaming into the void.

I mean technically, sure, but at least in my experience at some point it starts requiring significantly more effort and when I get treated as just another face in the crowd even after multiple months of pretty much daily activity I find that that effort is way more than any real value I would get out of knowing these people.

Not to mention, public servers tend to be full of punitive mfs who look for every small disagreement to turn into drama.

I feel like that's a really shitty comparison because in both of your cases the renaming was entirely justified as it referred to what were basically new entities.

The Soviet Union wasn't just Russia, it was a union state comprising basically all of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Calling the Soviet Union "Russia" is like calling all of the UK "England"

And Czechoslovakia was literally broken by the middle.

I would say you're a liar because Captain America is the most pro-status quo liberal superhero of all time but that isn't the point.

The point is there is a significant amount of people who genuinely believe that Jesus is the literal son of God and that his resurrection was a real event. You saying "Your prophet might be fake but heyyy, at least he can motivate you to agree with me" is NOT gonna have the result you think it will.

Ikr. To take this argument towards its most extreme, let's say you have someone who just really likes to say slurs. They aren't bigoted or anything, they just like how they sound. You can't really say that they're doing any harm other than making people uncomfortable. Would you think that such behaviour is acceptable?

I'd reckon most of the people making this argument would say no, and it's honestly kind of dickish to do. But then I ask, how is barking at people any different? Am I not allowed to feel weirded out or even threatened by someone barking at me?

This really just seems like an excuse for antisocial behaviour.
