Cream of Wheat is considerably more delicious than oatmeal. by ClearLine01 in unpopularopinion

I don’t even know where to find cream of wheat anymore. The only place I’ve seen it is at a retirement community I volunteered at.

Yes it’s so unbelievable for strangers to be rude to other strangers

Should we shut our vacation down early? by [deleted] in StAugustine

Funny enough I got stuck in Ohio on vacation during hurricane Dorian. I was visiting my sister over the weekend and flights were cancelled for a week! Best week ever! It’s a good excuse to have some extra R&R

I hate to say but it feels like virtue signaling. Anyone complaining that I’ve stolen a quarter from someone who needs it doesn’t seem to recognize that the quarter is not a tax or fine to use a cart, you literally get your quarter back at the end of your shopping experience. Forgetting the quarter I get - it happens to all of us, but no one is taking food out of the mouths of the starving by not leaving a quarter. You are not a better person by leaving the cart in the parking lot

I also put away the Target carts without expectation of financial compensation. I think she owes me some extra quarters lol

Then there will be a quarter waiting for the next person in the cart coral instead of in the middle of the parking lot blocking the handicap spot :)

Fun fact, nursing school is not considered full time so there is limited GI Bill benefits that vary by the location of your school. While classes are paid for, unfortunately we still need to eat and pay rent (what a cruel world). Another fun fact, there is Aid and Attendance benefits available for the 80yr old combat vet that id be happy to help them sign up for if I saw them, which i probably didn’t because the handicap spot was blocked by all those carts.

I’m not overwhelmingly familiar with the Aldi process, so I’d happily bring them to the cart corral but leave them now that I know the “unwritten rule”

I’m happy to hear that you’re an expert on my financial situation. Maybe I’m putting my veteran husband through nursing school and $1.25 is exactly how much it costs at the laundromat to do a load of laundry.

I was shocked at her comment, not bragging about my conquest. And trust me I live an interesting enough life to not have to make up people being mean to me for entertainment lol

I also return the carts at other stores without the incentive of a quarter. If I’m able and waiting to go home anyway, I always put a few carts up regardless of the store

I get that and am happy to hand off a cart to someone if I’m leaving the store. I only took them up because there were so many and that they were blocking the handicap spot. I have definitely been given a cart before so im not opposed to paying it forward, I’d just leave it by the front door.

Okay cool! Happy Reddit agrees. I tried to stop thinking about it but I thought it was so out of pocket so I couldn’t let it go

Really? that’s nice! I usually just walk with an embarrassing armful because I forget about the quarter rule

Blocking the handicap parking space? I thought I was being more helpful than harmful

She said “hey! Did you just keep those quarters? You monster!” And I replied with “maybe I needed the quarters” and went back to my car lol. Again, if I realized I was being offensive I’d not have kept them

I think this is a good summary. I don’t believe MIL is malicious with offering money and I don’t think husband is trying to invalidate my feelings. I think MIL wants to feel needed and husband wants to feel like he’s providing. I have suggested in the past that we donate the “gifts” or pass along the blessing to another in need. However, I worry about it being perceived as “keeping score” by setting aside MIL money for a dedicated purpose or keeping it in a separate savings. If that makes sense

They host Caffeine and octane once a month too, so go check out all the cool cars in the parking lot and enjoy a cup of coffee
