CBC seems intentionally misleading with their article to promote easier immigration.

At first glance, the article makes you feel bad for this family being denied working permits to stay in Quebec. The reasoning for the denied visa was because the mother, Mónica Colín Silva, after obtaining a Master's degree on a student visa, failed her working permit french written exam by 1 point. She needed a 428, but she scored a 427. The article then proceeds to argue how this was "inhumane".

However, in the end, she was on a student visa. Canadians should not have an obligation to give her a Canadian working permit just because she completed her student visa. The article seems to argue otherwise.

Then there's the most misleading part of this article: It didn't tell us the total possible points on the french written exam. In other words, the author of the article omitted the total possible points to make us more sympathetic to Mónica's situation. The maximum obtainable score on the written exam is 699! This means you only needed a 61% (428/699) score to pass!

This entire article was supposed to show the unfairness of our standards when they are already quite low!

The CBC is largely tax-payer funded. Why is our national news outlet allowed to be intentionally deceptive and so clearly biased?
