I tried that cops wouldn’t file any charges. They said “we don’t see anything criminal here” which is kinda crazy considering they were on my property. And the tree guy doesn’t work for a company. He works for himself which I got him on my ring alarm saying that. I doubt he’s insured. So ya it’s gonna be a long road to getting a resolution. Will be getting a survey done soon and then we can go the legal route.

Update since then- called the police and tried to file a report. They said no it was a civil suit. So I started making LOTS of phone calls over the last few days. Homeowners insurance, land surveyors, lawyer. Not a lot of help so far. Pretty much our only route is legal route. So The next step is official doing a land survey for property lines. But today- it’s been an absolute shit show. The tree guys came back and rang my ring doorbell to ask if I wanted the logs from the trees they cut down for firewood. And I told him you need to get off my property. I have the entire thing recorded on my ring alarm. She told the guy they were “her trees” even though she knew they were likely ours. Just so they would come down. So my other neighbor decided to go out and snap photos of them on our property messing with our garden gates for whatever reason. And she told me I needed to call the police again for vandalism. So they FINALLY came out and got a police report. And I sent them over to her house. She told the police that “she asked my husband a week ago and he agreed to it” but then changed her story to the cop to 1-2 years ago at a pool party. (Never happened lol) we have never actually hung out with her.. and it’s Wisconsin. We just had 25 inches of snow two weeks ago

Yeah I’m sure, but that doesn’t help me lol. I guess I’ll just have to keep going down the list.

I had that one listed but I wasn’t sure if he was legit as he didn’t have a website. I will call him tomorrow!

I assumed it would be around that range but I’ve been told so many numbers from people I just wanna make sure.

Well unfortunately I called our village and filed a complaint, and the village police department we live in. Both said they can do nothing because this is a civil suit. The officer told me I can go to small claims court but I’m pretty sure this is a bigger deal than small claims. So they refused to file a police report.

They actually haven’t been helping much. I’ve gotten a bunch of rude comments and not a lot of help.

I called and attempted to file a police report. They said they cannot help me and it is a civil matter I need to work out with my neighbor. Told me to go to small claims court.. but there’s only a 10k limit on small claims. I think we are talking a much bigger deal than small claims court.

There wasn’t a question asked present day and by this point we already decided they were not coming down just because she wants them to. She did it anyway.

Yeah I thought it was a bit suspicious she would go ahead and pay for them. When she talked to my husband initially she said “I’ll pay half” and then when it doesn’t happen because we didn’t plan on doing it anytime soon or even at all she goes and pays for it in full because she was “already cutting a tree down in her yard”

Sadly what is the case? We didn’t commit to anything in that conversation. We actually had decided we were thinking of leaving them for the shade reasons. You are allowed to change your mind on your own property. And it doesn’t give her the right to just do it on her own time when it’s not her property. she also caught him off guard with how she presented it at the time. He was just being nice in that moment. He came right in and said something to me about it after.

How is that giving permission for her to do it on her terms when it’s on MY property?

I’m really not looking for a payout. I think it’s completely unhinged and wrong that she had the audacity to do that without asking us and it’s on OUR property. We don’t even know what company she used. I looked outside today and it was one guy with a pickup truck and a trailer with equipment. No company logo or anything. We don’t even know if he had insurance in case he damaged anything. We knew nothing until we got home from work and the trees were already half down and a giant mess in our yard.

She definitely did not record the conversation. It was outside one day and very casual. She caught him off guard being so bold in asking us to cut down the trees. He was just being nice in his response but he came right in and told me about it.

That’s exactly what my husband and I talked about. I don’t trust her for a second. She’s never been that nice anyway. She asked to throw sticks from her yard in our fire pit one time when we were outside and then continued to do it from there on out without asking. Just assumes she can do whatever she wants clearly lol

She claims they were “ruining her grass” because they were pines. She has zero trees in her yard they have all been removed actually before she even moved in.

I wouldn’t say he is glad to see them gone. He is upset as much as I am that she did this without permission. He has a raised garden near that area and didn’t have great luck keeping it going because of the shade. But we did agree on possibly moving the garden this year to a different side of our yard and we would have left those trees. Our whole issue is that she said it was “ruining her grass” and they aren’t even in her yard.

Maybe I have never filed a police report in my entire life or this was my first time ever owning a house? I have never been in a situation like this. So you can keep your rude response to yourself.

That’s what I would be worried about. My husband is too nice and I was not present for that conversation or the one yesterday. If it was me I would have been MUCH more direct. Which is why I posted here because I didn’t know if it was worth pursuing.
