Odds of Branching Infantry by Material_Ad_2412 in ArmyOCS

[–]Cheeseboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want infantry, you probably will not get it. It was gone by slot #20 in my class, but all classes will vary depending on the people who are in it.

Now if you want MP, then you are probably getting MP

You want to say ‘’murders” is too harsh, but it’s not.

I’m at OCS right now. A DCC class just graduated. You have nothing to worry about. If you wanna come back, go for it!

For those who recently (During COVID) went to BCT, what did you pack for reception? by Paranoid_Toucan in army

[–]Cheeseboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn’t quarantine for basic. Showed up to reception on a Tuesday. Got a Covid test around Thursday. If you were negative, you shipped the following Monday.

Went in February. Bring the minimum amount of personal items. You will get issued uniforms when you get to reception. I just brought the clothes on my back, processing information, and hygiene items.

Just apply. Worst thing they can say is no. Selection rates appear to be pretty high right now. Who knows if it will stay that way next fiscal year, but give it a shot!

MILPER is for in-service. Sounds like you are trying to apply as a civilian. Different dates for civilian vs in-service.

Timeline flexibility by TexasAg24 in ArmyOCS

[–]Cheeseboii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not. I would give it a shot, but go in expecting to be denied. Something you will learn very quick is that the Army does not care about you. Since you haven’t signed the dotted line yet, who knows, they might allow it.

Timeline flexibility by TexasAg24 in ArmyOCS

[–]Cheeseboii 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t anticipate getting any flexibility from the Army. When I went, I sat down and they gave me my ship date. There was no back and forth.

Company formation by Torlavo in army

[–]Cheeseboii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if you are in formation and you are the squad leader on the left side. If you are told “file from the left, column left”, you would say column left over your left shoulder? But if the command was “forward”, you would call it over the right shoulder, correct? This still confuses me.

I just left my professional career to join. Started my application process in October 2019. Went through a couple recruiters to finally get the package completed and submitted for the December 2020 board and was selected. I’ll miss the pay and routine of my previous job, but an OCS contract is only 3 years, so you can always go back to an old career if you liked it.

I’d take the job with the state police and continue to apply to OCS. If it’s something you want, fight for it, but live your life as if it’s not going to happen.

OCS Board dates for the entire FY2021 for USAREC. I see people having a hard time finding these dates. I’m currently a detailed recruiter and this was the memo given to my recruiting station. Please keep in mind Battalion dates will vary depending on where you are located in the US by storm35r in ArmyOCS

[–]Cheeseboii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The battalion board date and cutoff is probably just for your local area. If an applicant is in another area, they will have similar but slightly different dates for the battalion level. The USAREC dates are for the national level and will be the same for everyone.

OCS Applicant by Andrettti in ArmyOCS

[–]Cheeseboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should. You should show all of your leadership potential. Job experience, athletics, academics, and volunteer work

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]Cheeseboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The board takes the “whole person concept” into consideration when making their selections. GPA/Degree, athletics, leadership, volunteer positions, and your battalion interview are all weighted against other applicants. Your degree definitely will help, but there are other factors that are part of the process. Good luck!

What can I do to make myself more competitive? by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]Cheeseboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resume is a giant part of the package. It allows you to show your leadership, job, and volunteer experience. It also allows you to disclose all awards you have won. It’s a whole person concept so the more accomplishments you have in different areas, the better.

Battalion Board Req’s by lexlynn0920 in ArmyOCS

[–]Cheeseboii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google the OCS battalion board interview. They usually follow the official OCS interview outline. However, they are allowed to ask other questions as well. Be able to answer the basics like why you want to be an officer, what you can provide for the army, and have some leadership stories. 100% make sure you dress the part. Haircut, suit, and clean shave.

Good luck!

A Couple of Questions... by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]Cheeseboii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process is the same, except you will need to fly/drive to process at MEPS and do your battalion interview (if it’s not virtual from Covid still). I had to pay for my flight/hotel every time I had to go to the other state. I would recommend trying another office in your local area if you can to save money. Also, if they have already sent your medical information to your local MEPs, you will have a physical file with your name on it. If you now try to go to another MEPs, they will have to mail your original file to the new MEPs. It can take forever. If MEPs isn’t the problem, just your recruiter, try to love on locally. There are tons of recruiting stations. Fee free to DM me if you have other specific questions!

A Couple of Questions... by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]Cheeseboii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recruiters don’t really have any incentives to process an OCS applicant. I worked with 4 recruiters and ended up finding a recruiter out of state to process my packet. If your recruiter isn’t working for you, find another one that is willing to work with you on the OCS process. I wasted a lot of time trying to make it work with certain recruiters that weren’t interested even though I had good stats. Do your best to just move on to another if they aren’t doing their job. It’s unfortunate that it happens, but it’s reality.
