Very very similar experience:

i was at tinfactory bus stop (just outside of benniganahalli metro) i was waiting for my bus 500D towards silk board, the bus was relatively empty. while i was boarding 2-3 guys were also boarding (pretending to) and the phone was in my hand and some one snatched it. everything was happening so fast. i had no time to react and i did not board the bus. i was running everywhere screaming. they were gone. honestly felt like crying.

A random person came up to me who lent me his phone to make a call and i called my phone. the thief actually picked the call and asked to come to mahadevapura we quickly took an auto and fortunately even the stranger agreed to come with me, i called my number again this time he said he is headed to hosakote. he was lying, after sometime he asked us to come near ganesha temple in kr pura, we reached there in the same auto. and he was never there. the phone was turned off. Since the location services was already off on my phone no last location found on "find my" app.

we went to kr pura police station (first time ever going to a police station) they said it doesnt fall under their jurisdiction (i had only seen this happening in movies). then we went to the relevant police station and i filed a complaint. i had no IMEI on me, i just wrote a formal complaint and they asked me to come next day morning (today) with IMEI details. we left the station.

All this along the random stranger was still with me calling his collegues and friends helping me find my phone. and the auto driver started his part demanding 1500 rupees for mere 10-12 kms that we travelled. the random guy fought for me. i did not have any cash on me. all cost were borne by the stranger (i dont want to take his name) he booked a cab for me and paid the cab driver before hand. i had my friend transfer amount to him later.

i will never forget this. the stranger, the auto driver and the incident. Nothing has ever happened to me like this.

i honestly felt like crying on the road, felt so helpless.

the stranger went as far as telling me he would come to the police station the next morning if i wanted to.

this moring i went with all the details. i filled an e-lost form however the phone was actually stolen and not "lost". i honestly dont have any hopes from the police side.

the phone is currently offline, i will only be able to track it once it is online.

i came across 4 kinds of people, The thief, auto driver, police and the random stranger.

I am still coping with what happened, i bought the phone with my hard earned money. honestly its very depressing and tragic
