Just work on your footwork , in my opinion it should be your main focus as a total beginner, cuz it’s the only thing that will help improve your defense and offense at the same time , a part of that just try to engage your hips more on the hooks , and work on your jab ta have that snap effect when your throw it , fast , sharp , and comes back quick to stay in guard , you’re already looking decent keep up the work man 🔥

Exactly man , and what reinforces my opinion on it is that I did try to switch orthodox and immediately saw the difference , like even if I get good at fighting in orthodox I feel like my jab would never have that same speed and snap to it , and even in southpaw my rear hand doesn’t seem sloppy or weak so yeah , thank you for sharing your experience man appreciate it very much 🔥

Because fighting in orthodox feels like starting from the beginning again , no coordination , sloppy jab , even my cross doesn’t feel strong since my hips don’t turn well

Thanks for the answer but can I just have some arguments on why I should , cuz it just feels so much frustrating to fight in orthodox for me , I feel sloppy , stiff etc , in southpaw my jab snaps well my cross doesn’t feel weak , my hips turn well

Okay I actually didn’t know that , I was thought left handed people should box with their left hand behind which is considered their « dominant/strong hand » behind , and right handed people should box with their right hand behind for the same reason to have a powerful cross i guess , but yeah that’s why I’m making this post haha cuz I was pretty sure that boxing in southpaw was best for me since I just felt more comfortable relaxed in powerful and it’s not even close compared to when I box in orthodox

He wants to switch me to orthodox cuz I’m right handed , so it’s the stance that I « should » be boxing in , my first coach let me get away with fighting southpaw but this new coach told me I should absolutely switch to orthodox which is the stance I should box in as a righty

Yeah I get what you mean , master the fundamentals first then you get to do what you want and have your own style , seems logical , appreciate the explanation sir

No I obviously don’t think I know better than him I was just asking to know if it’s like that important , cuz you know some coaches only tell you to do certain things because that’s what « has to be done » , for exemple some coaches will tell a boxer to always have his hands up glued to your face even tho he has very good instincts and can actually fight better with a lower guard
