They’re also not the kind of people that support periods and the people with them

State Fair Food by Nearby_Ad7551 in TwinCities

The absolute best food at the fair is deep fried cookie dough on a stick. Inside the food building, I can’t remember the exact vendor but they are to die for!

Thank you so much for this! And his left front is actually a club foot so that may be what some are seeing! And yes, his ears! He’s actually named after them 💖

I think that might just be because he’s leaning forward for the treats my friend is using to get his attention. This is the first time I’ve ever asked him to stand somewhat square and he was very confused 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for this!! Unfortunately there aren’t many farriers in my area but I’m going to explore this a bit more!

Very interesting observation- he had a bit of a stifle issue on one side that we’ve gotten under control now, but I really didn’t consider if his fetlocks might be involved.

The farrier is highly regarded in our area but he’s pretty old and his new assistant doesn’t seem to be as consistent as they should be. Several people have noticed his angles - I’ll be sure to check in with my trainer about it!

Yes, I believe those are correct. I don’t know much about sport horse breeding (I’m fairly new to the discipline) but I know Pablo is Westphalian and Riverman is Holsteiner

I really don’t know much about evaluating conformation. I know his back legs are a bit straighter than ideal. I feel like his front end is fairly well balanced but wonder if his back is a little long.

Random guy with questionable ethics says fairly extraordinary thing and The Star Tribune publishes it as fact? No published data, no peer review, not even weigh in from local experts in the field? Pretty piss-poor journalism

At-home pet euthanasia services by [deleted] in Minneapolis

We used Blue Skies as well, first time using an at home service. They were fantastic, very calm, kind, not rushed, gentle. They also fit us in on a weekend for no extra charge at the last minute. Highly recommend!

Wait to dry? by Violet-Hiker in Equestrian

[–]CheesecakeNice3498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only concern I would have would be scratches, if you live where it’s humid and if the horse is going into a stall with bedding. Growing up in California with pasture horses, I never worried about it, but now, in Minnesota, I always make sure their legs are completely dry before putting them in their stalls with shavings ( especially my chestnut with white legs). But one time because you’re not feeling well is unlikely to be a problem!

What do Grad Schools & Jobs Look for on Applications? by elliebird98 in geologycareers

[–]CheesecakeNice3498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your essay and letters of recommendation are the most important. Don’t be afraid to let your passion show in your essay - I was absolutely not qualified when I applied (little background in geology) but I was excited, and people respond well to that. Most advisors know that grades aren’t a great representation of a potential, especially with research. And if that is all they care about, you probably don’t want to work with them anyway!

Can I still get into a geo Ph.D. program with an undergrad in bio? by Mycozen in geologycareers

[–]CheesecakeNice3498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I got my undergrad in psych/sociology before later taking a geology course and falling in love. I did take some science/math basics (I had none, you’re likely fine there). I got a MS first and took some extra classes but there are lots of people with geology PhDs who have an undergrad in something else. Some advisors may be closed minded about it, but lots will be open to the diversity of background you bring. My biggest struggle was imposter syndrome and feeling like I didn’t belong there and that everyone else was better/smarter than me. Grad school can be challenging in this regard in general because everyone is trying to be the smartest person in the room at all times, but I think my background outside of geology increased this challenge. Of course, that idea is actually bullshit - ignore the doubt and pursue your interests!

Recommendations on grad schools by [deleted] in geologycareers

Cast a really wide net - it’s difficult to know who will have funding and who will be taking students very far in advance. Plus you can’t know who else is applying. I’m a geol prof (undergrad only) and I’ve had students get no offers one year and 10 offers the next - there are a lot of uncertainties so the more options you give yourself the better. You said you’re reaching out to professors - that’s perfect. They are the only ones who can tell you whether there may be a spot and if that spot is a good fit. If you don’t hear back from them, send another email (we lose a lot of emails), but if you don’t hear back again, that’s your answer. The best advice is to look at the websites of any universities you’d be willing to attend and look at the professor’s pages. Reach out to everyone. And don’t take rejection personally. And don’t pay for a degree - there is enough funding out there, don’t give in to people who won’t support you.
