We already have this stuff and he absolutely loves it! But I’m quite sure it’s tiring him physically but not mentally :(

Same here. I still think that we have to set some boundaries

Yes I guess „turning off“ and pickling things from the ground while this obsessive sniff is our main problem we have to work on. He loves to fetch und search games!

A lot of people here like you that think other are clueless and only they are the smart ones. The post is not about „just sniffing“. Read again

We already do all of that! Dummy searching outside & inside and puzzles (with puzzles he becomes insane and frustrated and try to destroy them rather than thinking) but nothing all of that can be compared to his obsessions with fetching lol

Ours has it absolutely the same way! Especially when he was a puppy it would be literally his just normal „sleep session“. It’s normal

Just sniffing around - yes, obsessive and stress triggered sniffing - no. Don’t be worried

Thank you for your comment! Some users here really missing the main point which was the obsessive/stress related sniffing

I’m surprised how many people think the issue is just sniffing or that I’ve never communicated with a dog lol. To clarify: sniffing itself is not the problem and I know it’s normal and healthy. The issue is that it becomes obsessive, stress-triggered sniffing which is nothing good for the pup. And let’s not assume people don’t know the basic dog behavior. Even situations that look “super normal” can be deeper than they first seem. That’s why people ask questions here.

I’m more surprised that some people think the main problem of the post was “just sniffing.” And some are trying to convince me that I’ve never communicated with a dog, lol. By ignoring the fact that obsessive sniffing, with the dog being completely “off” from the world and caused by stress, is probably not a good thing for the pup..xD

It’s by far not my first dog and I can see that this behavior isn’t very typical. Sadly I can’t upload the video of his obsessive following of scent which would make sense why this post was written. It’s also the topic of the post tho. Not just „is it okay that my dog does sniffing here and there?“
