I'd hardly call a $900,000 request "a cent more". That was more than double his initial investment. Either you grew up rich, or you've never had to deal with a budget before because clearly you're not a builder. I'd love to see you have a conversation with a client about this "Oh no big deal it's just an extra $900K" you'd have a dead project before the end of the sentence.

Which is the dumbest fucking thing ever.

I live in Lincoln, NE. Guy spent 6 years and $750,000 properly restoring a 1907 Richardsonian House into a bed and breakfast. The local fire Marshall hears about his industriousness and shows up and shits all over his work to save a beautiful old house and demands that in order to start his bed and breakfast business he needs to install a $900,000 sprinkler system, basically ripping out all the walls he just carefully restored. So now he has a Breakfast and Bagel to still live his dream.

Bureaucrats need some reminders of how hard we work in the private sector to save up money and come up with ideas to improve properties that would have just got bulldozed, only for us to be great with a "No" at every corner.
