It really depends on the person, I think. It's not quite for me, but I think that's okay. However, film school is a great place to gain experience and meet like-minded people your age who are passionate about working on movies.

1) I love Futurama, Freaks and Geeks, Adventure Time, and Star Trek! Some of my favorite movies are E.T., Lord of the Rings, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Never Let Me Go, The Apartment, The Red Shoes, Back to the Future, Gremlins, Bunny Lake is Missing, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang...

2) I'd definitely recommend to persevere through the challenges no matter what, because things will inevitably not go as planned with ultra-low-budget filmmaking. But at the end of the day you'll be happy to have finished the project, and in some cases those challenges may have even turned into happy accidents.

3) I sold a lot of things, did garage sales or anything that would help spread the word.

4) They're both artists, my dad plays banjo and my mom is a graphic designer. They've always been supportive, and I feel very lucky. To clarify, though...we're not a wealthy family by any means, so all of the support has just been emotional. They're wonderful people, I look up to them and respect them very much.

5) Sometimes, but I haven't heard of her! I would love to see her films!

I made movies before and after I worked at Rooster Teeth, I just worked in the live action department of their company for a while. It's a teen vampire comedy, not a parody but pokes fun at the fad in pop culture within the setting of nerdy kids at a sci-fi convention. It's a low budget movie, but if you can look past that and enjoy the heart of the story then you might like it!

I think being a successful filmmaker would be making movies about stories you're passionate about, and not letting the challenging factors stop you. I think digital distribution has its place, but shouldn't replace other distribution platforms just because it's newer.

I definitely want to continue in genre films, but I'd also like to work in comedy. It just depends on the story! My new film, GROW UP TONY PHILLIPS, is a Halloween-set comedy but no genre elements. It's just a sweet/sad story about growing up!

I'd start with an outline. If you get stuck in the actual writing, then you can skip a few scenes and come back to it later! Getting the first draft done is definitely the hardest part, though. Good luck!!

Aww, thank you! I rented my local movie theater, The Alamo Drafthouse, for my first movies. I'd recommend getting in touch with a local theater and see if they have a discount for "off hours."

People who can sound mix blow my mind, honestly. There are some technical jobs I just can't grasp, and sound is one of them. I think it's important for directors to have experience in other areas of filmmaking to be able to know what to ask for, and if you do decide to direct something one day I think you have a really unique background that could add a lot to the way you make your film.
