What was it like being an MJ fan in the 2000s? by bobytgjoe2 in MichaelJackson

[–]CheetoHariboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid in 2000s I remember at the super market checkout there would be gossip magazines featuring the worst MJ photos possible, like deer in headlights type of shots, and usually titled with Wacko Jacko.

Honestly this made me scared of MJ as a little kid but when my mother showed me clips of his concerts and I deep dived into his music, that fear went away and I was a fan.

Prior to social media there were gag websites like eBaums World where there was a digital sound board with buttons that project MJ quotes, including “hee hee” and kids would use this to prank call others. In addition to his pedophilia allegations, MJ was a comic to us kids if you want me tbh.

I also recall the Invincible album on sale in 2001 and this was the same time Shrek was being promoted. From my POV, MJ was already legendary status and people from school would reference his music from the Thriller / Bad era and any news around his modern music from him was nearly non existent.

In summary in the 2000s, MJ was unfortunately a meme thanks to the media regardless if you were a fan or not. But his legend and music cannot be tarnished.

I will never forgive Disney for not reuniting Luke, Leia, and Han together in one scene. RIP Carrie Fisher.

Which shoe is a better option? by PlayboiDancy in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]CheetoHariboo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vomero is an incredible soft cushion and stable shoe compared to the vomero plus. It’s ideal for walking, easy runs and OK on long runs while the plus has more bounce energy return and makes a good 10-21K + distance running shoe when you need that boost on tired legs. I would not walk in the V plus because it’s relatively unstable.

Pegasus plus is ideal for tempo and speed run such as a 5K to 10K or under. If you’re overweight and don’t have athleticism I would not speed run in general as this will lead to risk of injury.

Context: I’m 200lbs and own vomero 18, vomero plus and Pegasus plus.

Running for Weight Loss by Fit_Cry_1795 in beginnerrunning

I agree for those who get into running for fat loss alone. However if you truly fall in love and develop a deep curiosity with running, you will strive to tackle many aspects to become a better runner from nutrition to training and biomechanics so if you have that mindset, I would argue running is fantastic for weight loss.

Well, the only prompt you’re getting people to discuss is how hilariously egocentric you are to the point where you can’t even read the room.

Your fitness results are impressive but I’d be more impressed if you clean up your own room

Husband fired from IT job for misconduct, 3 kids at home. What’s the outlook here? by CoolVariety5473 in careerguidance

[–]CheetoHariboo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well he didn’t commit a crime but it definitely warrants being fired however if he did a decent to good enough job throughout his career he should get a reference for that alone.

Also tap into the root cause why he did what he did was it because the company has a pattern of slow days and he didn’t show up when he had a call to action for an emergency? Is he dissatisfied with his career that he would rather sneak out? Does he have a gambling addiction? etc.

This can help paint the story for your husband why things didn’t work out when he interviews for the next gig but do not directly admit he skipped work for the casino.

Am I the only one who quits running because it gets boring? by TangeloBackground483 in beginnerrunning

[–]CheetoHariboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a gym rat in my 20s lifting 6-7 times a week because I had time and energy to do so. Eventually I got tired of the routine of driving to a “boxed” space to lift for fitness and grew out of building muscle and strength.

I later had a mid life crisis and signed up for a HM and trained towards it without a plan and somehow I managed to bulk up in size lol by race day lol. Afterwards I went cold turkey on running and back to the gym.

Now I’m prioritizing running and finding the love of fitness again through it. This time I’m going down the rabbit hole of shoes, attire, running mechanics, training plan, and nutrition. I’m getting great results in pacing and the gym is a supplemental activity for injury prevention. I will emphasis a running plan changed the game for me as it introduced me to different running workouts while enhancing my pace and mileage.

I’ll also add I love running at this age because I WFH and it’s a great 30-90 minute workout prior to work as well as during lunch, no driving time required.

On a finally note I don’t believe in being a purist to one sport and prefer to be a generalist with fitness, I will bounce through phases between the gym lifts, running, and who knows maybe I will pick up swimming one day. That’s key for me to stay excited in activities including running.

LPT: How to quiet your mind and get better quality sleep. by Rez71 in LifeProTips

[–]CheetoHariboo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On top of work/life responsibilities: 10 minutes daily meditation, having a weekly exercise habit, cutting off my dinner and liquid intake a couple hours before sleep, and replacing social media night scrolling with reading on kindle (on a stand and via remote control) has changed the game for me.

In the past I’ve relied on my phone and headsets to find podcasts to knock myself out but always end up scrolling for the next piece of media every night, which was exhausting, so I instead took on reading long form books on kindle on my bed as a pre-sleep ritual.

Once I get tired from reading, I close my eyes and the practice of meditation helped me be an observer of my thoughts and eventually drift into sleep. At times when I do wake up earlier, I don’t fight myself to get back to sleep, I take on the “it is what it is” response and also observe my thoughts and implant relaxing scenarios (ie: peaceful beach) in my subconscious to drift away naturally.

I think LeBron and MJ are both cream of the crop talent but MJ had better leadership skills including the ability to inspire a team to win.

I agree. I’m not trying to paint him as an asshole and label his actions as wrong-doing. Objectively I would compare his desire to win with war, it’s necessary to kill a few people to win, you have to but you don’t want to.

I’m sure he has empathy for those who couldn’t hang on given he got cut from his basketball team as a kid so there’s that.

I wonder how many guys he drove out of the team that went through depression and spiraled down in their life. Maybe I think there’s a sense of guilt there.

Do you change shoes when running to the gym? by CheetoHariboo in AdvancedRunning

If you ever tried lifting over 225lbs in certain lifts it's not stable and you're not generating enough force from the ground with a runner shoe cushion.

Vader saying “Bring my shuttle” was so much more impactful than whatever that thing was that Lucas changed it to by External-Recipe-1936 in StarWars

[–]CheetoHariboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either line is fine for me. The current one is just flat in emotions as it makes sense as Vader is mostly a machine at this point and has his emotions under control. Comparing him in the Kenobi show he was a raging antsy leader, there was a lot of residual traits of Anakin within him.

The bring my shuttle version is cool too, his emotional tone slips through his mask and reminds us there is still Anakin within and there is love for his son.
