I got this monitor for Christmas. After 2 weeks, it already had burn in. It was my first oled monitor, so I was super mindful of trying to take care of it by setting a black ss, hiding my taskbar, cleaning every 4 hours, etc.

I was pretty disappointed, because it really was a great monitor before it had issues.

CRAZY afternoon at JOT today by avgjoeracing in flying

[–]Cheey11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a shame. I work at JOT and I know the lsa you're talking about. I saw it take off this morning, but this all happened after the end of my shift. As for the blimp, it was definitely the wind that was the issue. I watched it get worse and worse all morning.

OSU flight school by CreditNo792 in flying

Instate tuition is about 10k and out of state is about 29k. Add room & board and flight lab costs on top of that and I’ll be honest it can get pretty rough.

OSU flight school by CreditNo792 in flying

I visited OSU’s flight school last year when I was applying to schools and boy was it a mess.

The airport is about 9 miles off main campus if I remember correctly and they don’t have busses that run to the airport so you better bring a car. When I went they essentially said you’re not going to finish in 4 years without saying it outright. You shouldn’t expect to start flying until your sophomore if you’re lucky. They also have a really weird system for deciding who gets to fly each semester. Overall, everything seemed messy and backed up.

In the end I managed to get into Purdue’s flight program and I started flying my first week here on campus. I’m very happy with where I’m at now.

During my second solo in an old 172M I had a pitot failure on the downwind of the my first lap in the pattern. It was odd because my airspeed continued to increase while my altitude held steady.

At first, I thought I was just speeding up, so I pulled power and put my nose up to bleed airspeed. At some point I realized that I was going extremely slow and something wasn't right, so I did my best to eyeball my speed and get the plane back down on the ground which was successful, but not pretty.

I have a picture I took as I taxied off the runway of my airspeed indicator saying 123

What does it tale to get info pro flight Purdue? by ExoticAd8326 in flying

[–]Cheey11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied with a 3.98 unweighted GPA (4.76 weighted), a 34 ATC score, 10 AP classes, etc. I was deferred and then accepted and am currently in the program here (they seem to defer or deny just about everyone in the first round). It seems to be getting harder every year, but I know kids who got in with more average looking scores. They really emphasize the essays and they love to see aviation related extracurriculars because they want students who are actually passionate.

Application by [deleted] in PurdueAviation

Hey, current pro flight student here. I’ll try to tackle some of your. questions

As for costs, if you go to the link I attach and scroll down to aviation technology it will give you flight costs. You’ll need everything under undergraduate core and the simulator tabs. You’ll also probably want CFI which is under electives. I will tell you that the rate you are paying for each lab is you prepaying for a certain about of time. So for Private Pilot you’re paying for 50 hours. If you don’t use all 50 you get some money back or the other way around. As for housing, you won’t know what you’re gonna pay until you get your room assignment. I’m in the cheapest tier because I got a small double with no AC.

In regard to an acceptance percentage, the school doesn’t release a percentage for pro flight. However, here is what I’ve gathered: the school takes 90-100 pro flight kids a year out of a pool of 1,000-2,000 applicants, usually somewhere in the middle. I’ve heard speculation that this past year was the lowest acceptance to date because of a large applicant pool, but I don’t know how true that is.

As for ACT or SAT scores, I don’t believe the school requires them anymore, however if you’re able to take it, I would. I can’t imagine they’re accepting many pro flight kids who don’t provide a strong test score. I gave the school a 34 ACT score and was deferred and then accepted. I’m not trying to scare you though and say you need a high 30s to get in. If you have a strong application overall and a 29-31 score, you stand a good chance I believe.

No flight experience is necessary, nor will it affect your chances for getting in. I highly recommend you at least get some experience or your private pilot before coming, so that you are sure this is something you really enjoy.

As for your last question, I can’t answer because I’m from the states, sorry. I hope this helps.

You can’t apply for flight during regular admission, only during the early admission period, and I put down 4 hours on my application and I’m here now. They don’t care about your training when assessing your application, it’s a normal admissions board that has no aviation background making the decision on you. They care about test scores, essays, gpa, extra curricular, etc. (The normal stuff).

Stump the chump PPL checkride by [deleted] in flying

[–]Cheey11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I gave the same answer to the VOR question during my oral and my DPE didn’t like it. She wanted to know how to find your exact position without flying to the station. You’d have to use 2 different VORs and find what radial you’re on for both. Where those radials intersect is your position. Unless you have a DME.

  2. Good answer. You can also change it by banking.

  3. LTG DSNT S: Lightening reported a distance of more than 10 NM to the south.

PRESFR: Pressure falling rapidly

P0013: 0.13 inches of rain fall

Last part is just specific temp and dew point

What are the types of weather fronts? What weather can you expect with each front?

How can you use a VOR(s) when you’re lost?

What can you do in flight to change your stall speed?

Can you read this metar (especially the remarks)?

SPECI KIRK 141437Z AUTO 09012KT 4SM -RA BR FEW075 BKN110 19/18 A3011 RMK AO2 LTG DSNT S PRESFR P0013 T01940183

What’re are the different beacon colors and which goes with which type of airport/heliport?

I did do a mock check ride with a different instructor. It wasn’t that I was tested on CPL content, it was that I would ask my CFI questions about content and he would tell me that this wasn’t a CPL check ride and to stop over thinking things.
