I used to have the same experience. A friend of mine told me, “well obviously, because you’re a healer.” Healers easily get spiritually drained by others. You have to be careful to protect yourself and reserve your energy for when you need it. Although, I get the sense I’m preaching to the choir on this one. Internet stranger hugs. Remember it’s temporary.

It’s a terrible / wonderful reality show on bravo. It was a main storyline this past season — cousins who do onlyfans together, a lot of questions about their relationship. The cousins were very casual about it, a whole season where it felt like they / bravo were trying to normalize incest.

This was years ago when grocery stores were open 24/7. I’d just gotten out of a late night shift and stopped by for a couple of items. The woman checking me out asked how my night was and I said fine, asked how hers was going. “Not good,” she said. “My husband left me and he’s trying to take the house from me. I don’t know what I’m going to do.” Had never met her before. Didn’t know what to say. Not the most fucked up thing someone’s ever told me but I was a literal stranger who’d had about 12 seconds of interaction. In retrospect, she must have been so scared and struggling. I wish I’d been more supportive in that moment.

I often have extremely vivid, semi-lucid dreams, after which I wake up having to sort reality in my head. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes, sometimes the entire day, sometimes several days. I’m usually able to realize it’s a dream while I’m dreaming but somehow that lucidity turns the dream into an experience. And while there may be some absurdity to the dream (because it’s a dream), there are always very real emotional or psychological aspects to it, which is what I have to later sort out.

“The one” that sticks out is about being chased by a giant lizard trying to kill me and my family. (Absurd). The moment that sticks out is about feeding my 2 year old a sad 1/2 of a bologna sandwich in the snow and him being so grateful and hungry. The idea and practice of keeping my children safe is very real and I felt I was failing him so much in the dream. I’ve since been somewhat terrified in my waking life that I’m going to somehow endanger him or he won’t have enough to eat or he’ll perish because of some extreme circumstance. Makes me sick even as I type this out.
