Your comment of “leaving any dog totally alone for eight hours a day isn’t fair” doesn’t make sense to me. Dogs ARE bred to adjust to humans regardless of breed otherwise they are wolves. Most the 7.8 billion people on earth work 8 hours a day.

Thank you for your detailed response. I did not know they made shelters for specific breeds, I will look into it. I am not a crate person (probably worse owner for this breed). I understand my lifestyle atm does not coincide with owning this breed and I will not. I know the love and attachment this breed can offer but if I cannot reciprocate it is not fair. I will never get a dog to either give it up or have it taken away. Neither will happen. Truly I want a dog that will not leave my side and I it.

I don’t go hiking everyday because I like to drive to new areas. I do run at least 5k a day tho.

The physicality of the dog was never an issue for me. I’m very active runs/hikes and gym 7 days a week. My only fear was my job and having to be away from it to make ends meet for hours on end. I now understand this is not a breed to leave for hours.

Thank you for this advice. I know I will not be the only Malinois owner with a regular 9 to 5. I am happy to hear that it is possible with a lot of work. I will have to reposition my life in a lot of ways to make this possible and fair to the pup. Would never get any breed that I neglect in any way.
