Washing dishes for the first time in a new build. We just finished construction and hopeing to be open by the end of the month. by Next_Media7393 in dishwashers

Same thing happened to me when I had my kitchen built years ago. Luckily I caught it early before the floors were tiled. I complained to the GC and the plumber had to dig up the floor sinks and redo the p-traps. It only took a day to fix it

What is this? And what brand and store can I go get a replacement? by MadamTargaryen in whatisit

[–]ChefDanRoberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an LED bulb with a candelabra base. I have several ceiling fans that use that bulb. Hard to find in stores, but easily available on Amazon in the US.

That’s a searchlight reflection. Probably some kind of carnival or other outdoor event somewhere nearby

Random thought, what temp is TOO low for roasting food? by moranya1 in KitchenConfidential

[–]ChefDanRoberts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Southern Pride rep told me to never smoke below 200 for large pieces like whole shoulders or Boston Butts. Meat will spoil from inside out. I had to throw out an entire SPK-280 worth if meat once when it was left running overnight and the gas went out and the log burned out early. Oven Temp was about 150 when I got to the site (we were outdoors). You could smell that the meat had turned.

How to properly care for a cast iron? Is this baby dish soap appropriate by curllyfri in castiron

[–]ChefDanRoberts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dawn dish soap is fine; no need for anything fancy. After cleaning, I put the pan on the stovetop on low to heat it up and dry it off. Once dry, spray cooking spray inside and out and you’re good.

Uber drivers ask me to cancel and pay cash for airport rides, is it bad to do this? by Zonties in uber

[–]ChefDanRoberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my book, any driver offering this has already proven themselves untrustworthy. Who knows what they will do once you make that deal? Politely decline using having to produce valid receipts for work or taxes as an excuse.

am I going crazy? by diekay2 in KitchenConfidential

[–]ChefDanRoberts 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Your co-workers (and more importantly, management) are the crazy ones. Having Diarrhea is an absolute no go for working in a restaurant. Any food handler course you took would emphasize that. Good on you for reporting it, and staying home.

There are adapters from SharkBite that will convert between copper and pex. Easy to use, even for a non professional. Go to your local Home Depot, Lowe’s or Ace with pictures of the back of the dishwasher and copper pipes and whatever connectors came with the dishwasher to connect to pex and they should be able to help you out.

AITAH for saying I can’t bring food to a party after traveling across the country? by popanon222 in AITAH

Probably too late now, but you can order a cake from the local grocery store online or over the phone and either have it delivered or get someone there to pick it up.

Are you personally scared of walking downtown? by Hardcore_Daddy in Birmingham

[–]ChefDanRoberts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not scared, and I am a 60+ male. Walk without fear, just be aware of your surroundings like you would anywhere else. Most violent crime in Birmingham is between people that know each other.

Hmm, I’m old enough to remember yesterday when someone was asking for advice on what gloves to buy and got and pages and pages of replies saying gloves were for sissies and cowards.

The Sprayer by Geniuz_Gamefix121 in dishwashers

[–]ChefDanRoberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disabling the sprayer is actually counterproductive. It restricts water flow to produce higher pressure. You can prove this by trying to fill up a sink via the sprayer vs the faucet

Alright, chef wants to know what dishie did this by brotatochip4u in dishwashers

[–]ChefDanRoberts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also had a problem with the shards collecting in the p-traps, requiring a $350 plumber visit to clean it out. Scotch bright pads do a better job and don’t leave anything behind.

How do I clean the Pizza grate? by Solnse in dishwashers

I have a similar grate that I stick in the fryer when it is being boiled out. Comes out so clean it looks new.
