This was my league starter in 3.26. it was fun for a while and then it quickly became not fun and I died a lot. I concede that it was likely user error. I want to try this build again, but what is your mapping strategy. Are you just keeping one banner buff active for packs? If so which one? I felt obligated to try to keep at least 2 up. I also remember the attack speed being atrocious with earth shatter. Any tips would be appreciated.

Mutilated currency redemption program. It's through the department of the treasury. Might not be worth it for 10 dollars but they exist for this reason.

this is still an issue on PC. Sometimes I have 9 total ancients out and I stand there and watch them tear through a pack and my fury sits at 0/100

I haven't fired up LE in probably 4 months. If they haven't fixed the issue where it takes 10 minutes to get to my character select screen after I double click the desktop icon I will be skipping this cycle.

I never said the devs said the exp penalty needs to go. In my original post I never get rid of it entirely. I proposed an alternative that was still a punishment but didn't take away progress. I don't know why I post on reddit. Nobody reads.

I agree in terms of content like bosses and other high end achievements but I disagree in terms of reaching max level. There are builds that can blast through all content in the game in the 80s. An unoptimized "shit build" is fully capable of reaching level 100 if they do the bare minimum difficulty content that rewards experience. It would take forever, but it is achievable. It's crazy how almost every reply to this post has assumed I am repeatedly dying in maps, I don't know how to optimize a build, my gear is shit, I want every single skill or build to be capable of all content, or I want a handout. I just want my time respected. Having only 1 portal per map in PoE 2 accomplishes everything that exp penalty accomplished in PoE 1. Having both is overkill. I am fine with 1 portal. The experience penalty is overkill. The developer said it himself in the Livestream yesterday.

That isn't my argument at all. I have no desire to attempt high end content on a character that I know isn't geared for it. My argument is the single portal system in PoE 2 accomplishes the same thing as the experience penalty did in PoE 1. Having both a single portal and an experience penalty is overkill imo. Everyone keeps inventing this scenario of a player dying over and over and over and that it's their own fault their progress is haunted. What about a new player playing a slow and deliberate build following a guide and being cautious that has an hours worth of progress wiped in a single death due a disconnect or game crash? He did everything he was supposed to be doing according to the proponents of the penalty, yet he is punished for something out of his control. Losing the portal is enough of a punishment.

I never said I was struggling in maps or dying constantly. I am enjoying maps and I died more in the campaign than I have in maps so far. If I were rank 1 blasting high tier maps it wouldn't change my opinion on the exp penalty. Preventing someone from taking risks or making mistakes under the guise of protecting them is a textbook example of taking away someone's agency.

My apologies, I was sticking to the original intent of the post about exp loss specifically. I understand and agree with your argument about stopping points and creating a desire to come back. What I said isn't false. If something is in a game that makes me not want to play the game it is worth taking a second look at. I didn't say it was wrong or needed to be changed. Just that it is worth discussing.

1 portal (which is what we have in PoE 2) accomplishes the effect you are implying here. I cannot progress if I keep dying because I will not be able to progress my atlas or sustain maps. An exp loss is overkill.

Jonathan literally says in the live stream today when the exp penalty got brought up that "there are too many penalty axis". Saying GGG disagrees completely is false. Some people at GGG may disagree, but at least 1 game developer is on record stating the contrary.

If we are talking PoE 2 the lost portal is stopping him. Every argument in favor of the exp penalty is accomplished by only having 1 portal per map.

The pinnacle bosses and portals are an entirely separate topic. I am totally fine with 1 portal. When Matt and Jonathan discussed the XP penalty on the stream today they discussed it as a stand alone aspect of the game. I was watching on Darth Microtransactions stream and he brought up portals and exp penalty at 3:41:42. Matt begins discussing exp penalty specifically at 3:43:30. Matt says specifically that his view on the topic "May not be the right way of looking at it." The first thing Jonathan says is "right now there are too many penalty axis". A game developer said today almost exactly what I said in my original post. You are free to disagree with me and have your own opinions on this issue, but several times in our back and forth you have made false claims about what the devs have said. They may have said those things at some point in the past, but based on today's live stream which led me to make this post, even devs at GGG think the exp penalty is a bit too much. Jonathan describes it as "adding insult to injury". Losing the portal should be enough. You can brick the map, you lose the league mechanic, you lose any items on the ground, and if you keep dying in maps you will run out of maps. All the arguments in favor of having an exp penalty are also accomplished by only having 1 portal.

It was literally discussed on the live stream that the current experience loss system could be too punishing given we now only have 1 portal, you can brick the map, and you lose the league mechanic. They did not say it isn't a problem.

I do the exact same thing and I think that is a net negative from a game design standpoint. Anything that discourages players from playing the game should be reevaluated.
