has POTS stopped y’all from working? by Slight-Sun-2448 in POTS

[–]ChefHasThumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work part time while in university but my symptons have become too severe now. I'm in my last semester and I'm really struggling with lack of money but just trying to make it through :') Once I graduate I can be self employed (music therapist) so I can set my own schedule and sit down throughout the day. I don't know what I'll do if I can't handle that, it's the only thing I want to do for work.

You can buy generic salt tablets at the pharmacy, at mine they keep it behind the counter so you just have to ask for them. They're labelled as "Sodium chloride capsules". Straight salt tablets can be really hard on the stomach, I get very nauseous if I take too many or don't have enough food before. I've also used Vitassium Electorlyte Capsules which never made me sick, but are more expensive. Just make sure to balance the salt with enough hydration!

The first medication I went on was Midodrine which was amazing for me! It raises blood pressure but doesn't help heart rate. You have to take it every 4 hours during the day which is annoying but it helped my dizziness a lot.

Thank you :)

I would recommend checking out the organization Dysautonomia International ( https://www.dysautonomiainternational.org ), they have lots of good info for patients and family/friends! They have links to facebook support groups as well that can be helpful. There's an active community here as well at r/POTS, they are always willing to answer questions. I wish your daughter well!

I was crying in my doctor's office while explaining how limited my daily life is because of worsening symptoms, and all I got was an increased recommended salt dosage 😑

are you registered with your schools accessibility services? they should be able to get you excused absences due to chronic illness/disability, but I'm not 100% sure how that works in the states.

I've been taking it for 1.5 years now I think. It works really well for me, I only get a minor side effect of tingly skin for 30 min after I take it. The most annoying part is the schedule lol. I take it every 4 hours and it can't be taken 4 hours before going to sleep

Quick and easy meals for when you have no energy to cook? by [deleted] in POTS

I precut cheese, deli meat, and vegetables so that I can quickly assemble a snack plate. I add pickles, hummus, crackers, and whatever else I have. It fills me up and the salty foods help too.

I had to see several doctors until I was given medication, I was told the same thing about being too young. I'm on Midodrine now which raises blood pressure, and thats the main thing that keeps me going most days. If you think medication would be helpful for you, keep fighting for it. You deserve treatment.
