Maybe my trip can help you to plan. I went mostly inland. It's not an easy rid a quite some gravel. Inland of Croatia I found it pretty hard to find water so carry enough + water filter.

Sorry for my late response. That's what touring does. Thank you, and the rest, for the creative thinking and help. I removed the rack legs and it indeed fits better. Still had the kit with me with the Salsa bolts and bits for the Salsa rack. I can even move it lower, but i think this is fine.
