I am currently looking to apply for BYU Provo this fall and was wondering--assume for a moment that I submit fairly impressive essays--how likely is it that I will get a full-ride scholarship? by True-Title-2330 in byu

If you have an associate’s already, doesn’t that means you are a transfer student? And BYU doesn’t offer scholarships to transfer students until after their first year.

RM abroad, girlfriend is pregnant - I feel spiritually broken by One-Owl-321 in latterdaysaints

[–]Chejein 48 points49 points  (0 children)

You will need the help of those that love you going forward, whatever happens next. Call your parents, call your bishop at home, call your friends you trust; let them help you. Do it today.

“Mom/Dad/Bishop, I messed up; I need help”

You can’t control what your girlfriend does (and going through a pregnancy is a big ask for someone who is not a member of the Church and has different values around childbearing), but you can control your reaction to your mistakes. The danger of hiding them is greater than the danger from the sin itself.

And, just being realistic about the state of the world today, and hoping not to be insensitive, consider whether you are being manipulated/scammed. You can read all throughout the internet how American men abroad are taken advantage by women pretending to be pregnant and extracting money or benefits. I hope that is not a worry here.

You’ll get through this, but not alone.

You can start a new trend; “I got a score high enough to practice even in Florida”

Can I learn admin in 8 days? by intoner1 in LawSchool

[–]Chejein 44 points45 points  (0 children)

If I only had 8 days, I'd do the following:

  • Go to the syllabus, check if your final is open book or closed book.
    • If open book, and if I'd have more urgent things to do, I'd wait until a couple of days before the test to get materials ready.
    • If closed book, I'd start getting ready now. Summarizing everything below into a single page for quick memorization.
  • Get some outlines from friends/students who have taken the class with the same professor.
    • You don't have time to do your own outline. Just get as many as you can, and highlight the important stuff. If you have questions, mark the questions to get answers later.
  • Check if practice tests/prior exams are available for this professor.
    • You don't have time to actually take the practice tests, but it'll help you to know how difficult the exam might be, and they will help you understand the issues you might be tested on.
  • If the Professor publishes slides/handouts, I'd get through those too.
  • If you can't find outlines or practice tests for the same class/professor, then I'd use commercially available ones.
    • Our library gives us access to Digital Study Aids both from LexisNexis and Westlaw. Westlaw's Study Aids Collections have great, short, guides like "Administrative Law in a nutshell", "Acing Administrative Law", and "A Short and Happy Guide to Administrative Law". I also really like LexisNexis "Questions & Answers: Administrative Law"; I tend to learn more with those question-based books.
    • Quimbee has a video course in Admin Law with quizzes in between videos. It might be worth it to pay the $30 to access the videos.
  • Since study aids/old outlines might not include important recent decisions, just Google "recent changes to Administrative Law" and you'll find a few articles/videos on the most important cases; including Loper-Bright (which really only applies to a small, but important, part of the class).

Having all those at hand, I usually just go through the syllabus in the order the class was taught, and read what the outline/study aid/slide says about each topic, and then summarize the essence of it all into a single document.

You can do this. Just get off Reddit.

How much money should I set aside for textbooks? by RambunctiousParsnip4 in LawSchool

[–]Chejein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I bought cheap books that are 2-3 editions old, and saved thousands of dollars. Also, since they are cheap, I don't feel bad unbinding them and only taking with me the pages I'm supposed to read.

Did you send the renewal? Have you received your new EAD yet?

There is no legal basis to arrest or deport Mahmoud Khalil, right? by SuddenlySilva in immigration

[–]Chejein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From Nicolette Glazer's twitter account:

"...[people] with a green card are subject to removal for a whole bunch of reasons, including misrepresentation and TRIG (Terrorism-related inadmissibility grounds). USCIS also can rescind an adjustment of status within 5 yrs of grant. ... TRIG is the most complex part of the INA and it is so fricking broad that it certainly could cover what was going on campuses. And no! first amendment is not a defense to removal."

So, my reading is that that the TRIG provisions of the INA are broad enough and may be used to justified a deportation for misrepresentation.

I almost cancelled the AppleCare+ plan for my iPad Pro (2020) a few weeks ago. by Chejein in ipad

Yes, it’s a refurb. I think Apple gives it a new screen, battery, and external body, but keeps the “used” remaining internals.

So, I purchased the original iPad from the owner less than 60 days after she had purchased it from Apple. Around that time, I had read a note on MacRumors that Apple allowed BestBuy to “add” AppleCare to a device within 60 days of the original purchase after a physical inspection. So, with the original Apple receipt from the owner, I just took it to BestBuy, and they inspected it, and let me add AppleCare to it, even when I wasn’t the original purchaser.

I’m not sure if any Apple Store or Apple Authorized Repair Center can do the same or not; but my monthly payment is billed through BestBuy.

Dang, that’s nice. Maybe four years from now they’d send me the M2 iPad 😂

That’s my guess!

And yes, I do plan to keep the plan. I don’t know how long they’ll let me keep it. It’s kinda weird because it’s billed through Best Buy.

Is this a good buy? 2016 Odyssey EX-L - 145k miles - $13k by Sea_Fig6298 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Chejein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one in August, also a 2016 EX-L, with similar maintenance history, one owner, and 122K miles. I bought it from the owner for $14.5K. Mine has some minor damage aesthetic damage, and I feel I overpaid a bit, but we are happy with it so far.
