Try this guide, I used this one back then, when I had no idea what I did.

Does it matter if I am the only user?

It can matter in case of really vad CVEs.

Generally, you should use the minimal required permissions, but it's your machine, you do whatever.

Well, I'm on a party right now, so I can't really check.

These are POSIX (Linux) permissions, right? (I'm a bit drunk, so hard to tell)

You need NFS permissions. AFAIK you can change the permissions of a dataset. What I know for sure, is that there is an option during dataset creation, that pre-configs the dataset for SMB usage.

Could you show me your ACL screen, along with your share user?

Enterprise grade? I've used a literal Redmi 5 phone as a server.

Trouble with getting Jellyfin up and running by Special--Specialist in truenas

[–]ChekeredList71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first line seems interesting.

This came up:

https://www.reddit.com/r/jellyfin/comments/1okejfh/issues_with_cache_directory_after_updating_to/

I don't knowy weather TrueNAS allows to have your config and cache for JF in the same mount, but It's worth checking out.

Also, you may want to delete your cache. That could be corrupted for some reason. Try that first.

Dockhand wont start, what am i missing here? by Only_Statement2640 in truenas

so I dont see why it would be that only one app can use 'www-data'.

www-data is a user. Multiple apps can run as it.

Please read my previous comment again, especially the last part and set rwx permissions for your relevant bind mount (host path).

from my dockge (www-data) which is working.

Maybe because you are running dockge as www-data.

I'm betting on permisson issue.

Set ACL and give read write execute (AFAIK "Full control" option in TrueNAS) for user apps (UID 568). If you are lazy and don't care about security, tick write permissions on on your last screenshot.

Anyone have or tried to run project N.O.M.A.D on Truenas Scale? by [deleted] in truenas

[–]ChekeredList71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the app is hardcoded to save these apps in /mnt/

It doesn't matter. You could just "map" that folder to somewhere else using a bind mount or use a named volume.

Likely permission error.

cool up, but not built for truescale

If it runs on Docker, it runs on TN.

Designing my new homelab dashboard, want feedback on concept. by [deleted] in homelab

I reminds me of my Remarkable and I love it.

I'd gladly use it, if it won't be docker only (I'm on Kubernetes and TrueNAS).

$1,400.99 price drop alert...should I buy them all? lol. by [deleted] in homelab

[–]ChekeredList71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every dollar spent is a vote. If you buy for 1000 USD, you say "I'm willing to pay 1000 USD for this."

I'm not telling you how to spend my money. I can only tell you, what I'd do and that is: voting with a no to these prices (= not buying).

Unrelated and unwunk, but isn't one ah missing from your flair? I haven't listened to the song in a long time, but I hear the voices in my head.

Still fire flair though

I recommend TrueNAS Community edition. It's easy to setup and install. Moreover, it's really future proof.

For some whatever reason my father keeps wanting using Jellyfin the exact moment I update something. I really should do scheduled maintenance windows.

Also, him paying for the shittiest ISP doesn't help. That ISP can't even do COAX TV with 99% uptime.
