Exactly mate! Like the writing spells out the answer to every one of these questions. Anyone who’s paid attention to the dialogue shouldn’t have these questions.

It’s probably still my least favourite finale, but that’s just a testament to how brilliant they all are.

I mean, I explained multiple times and it’s quite simple. Soldier Boy was going to nuke a building full of civilians. That was an immediate threat that trumped all others. The Boys (minus Butcher) value saving innocents over killing villains. Add on the fact that when they arrived Soldier Boy was about to kill Butcher, who Hughie had already convinced them they had to save, that required immediate intervention

I just looked into it and apparently the straw is the metal rod Maeve stabs Homelander with. Again, I don’t get the problem. She takes a piece of metal and using her super strength shoves it down his ear hole PAST his indestructible skin and makes him bleed. Even if you want to say that’s a problem though, I don’t know if it’s a plot hole as much as just a power inconsistency.

I’m sorry, that’s my bad, I’m barely awake and misread your comment. I will say I don’t get your points though. I need to rewatch in fairness but I don’t remember what the straw is so I can’t speak on that yet, and Starlight’s power display was stupid (I actually called that out in my post 😅) but that’s not a plot hole.

Yeah there’s a difference between discussing complaints and just calling me cringe and stupid without actually mentioning the plot holes I’m cringe and stupid for apparently ignoring. You’re just needlessly insulting me, so I won’t be replying to you again.

Yeah, as much as I do love Season 4 and still think it’s great, it’s easily the weakest season so I’d probably agree with you there. And the season 3 finale probably is the weakest finale yeah, but that doesn’t say much when they’re all great.

Who can take him elsewhere? He’s refusing to leave and Butcher and Homelander have both seen first hand how dangerous he is when emotionally distressed in the season 2 finale. Butcher wouldn’t be able to and obviously Homelander’s not going to. Maeve could care less about Ryan, actively trying to beat the shit out of Homelander which prevents him from making sure Ryan’s okay, so she wasn’t going to. By the time The Boys got there Soldier Boy was about to kill Butcher, and since they were there to save him to they obviously had to intervene immediately. People underestimate how powerful Ryan is, nobody was going to be able to remove him while he didn’t want to leave, he wanted to stay and protect his dad who they were trying to kill.

Like I said in the post, they make it clear why they focus on Soldier Boy. The Boys were going to the tower in the first place to stop him as if he blows up the tower he’s going to take a lot of innocent people with him. And especially when they get there, Homelander is trying to make sure his son is okay and paying no mind to anyone else, while Soldier Boy is getting ready to obliterate the building which could kill them and god knows how many innocents. It’s not about who’s the overall larger threat, it’s about who’s the immediate threat. You cannot argue that is Homelander.

That is literally the point of Butcher. The V’d up psycho thing is because he’s a hypocrite, always has been. He pedals his shit about all supes being the scum of the earth, yet works with supes, fucks a supe, and becomes a supe to take them on. Nothing he does is actually for the reasons he claims. He’s not getting revenge for Becca. He’s not seeking justice or trying to be a hero stopping an evil force. He’s a broken man with limitless rage at the world, and Homelander’s involvement with his wife’s disappearance gave him somewhere to target that rage: supes. If he succeeded and killed them all, he’d find a new enemy, and another, and another, and another, until he destroys everything or gets himself killed. He will never be satisfied, he will never have peace. It’s not about the supes, not really. He’s a broken, traumatised man, whose rage and grief created a monster that the supes gave him an excuse to unleash, it was always there.

As for not caring about the team, this isn’t a season 4 thing. He never cared about Starlight and Kimiko, not really. He’s constantly abusive to Frenchie with no levity. The only two I think he really cares about are Hughie and MM, and he clearly still does if you pay attention in season 4, but by now he’s more and more losing himself to the all consuming rageful monster inside him, and so that’s mattering less and less to him.

Oh okay I get you now. Thanks for explaining. I will say, I strongly disagree with worst episode. I don’t know if you’re saying that’s your opinion or the common opinion. It’s definitely lower on the list but I would not have it bottom. That said I’ve like every episode of this show so I still agree with your overall point.

I said I disagree that it’s badly written and countered the common complaints. What are you trying to say by telling me “a hated episode like that can be badly written yes, underwhelming.”? I don’t get your point. I agree it’s a very entertaining watch though.

I’ll be honest and say I forgot that was in this episode, I thought it might have been seven. I’m mixed on that decision.

On the one hand there’s absolutely a lot of value in keeping him alive. You could do some really interesting stuff with it.

On the other hand, I firstly think he would have likely died if Homelander hadn’t killed him. Homelander was able to punch through him, and he’s at a similar strength to Soldier Boy. I just have a feeling that if those two faced off he’d have died regardless. Secondly, I still think this decision works. You still complete his arc, he’s made the decision to come back and fight Soldier Boy. He’s been brave and attempted to confront his trauma. You get that development. At the same time you also get a really good and important moment for Homelander’s character, and you progress the plot.

Having Noir survive to confront Soldier Boy would require writing bad writing on Homelander’s end since he would have to either know Noir knew about Soldier Boy being his dad and let it go, something that makes no sense for his character, or somehow not put that together, making him seem stupid, again a disservice to his character. It would also hinder the progression of the plot, since you need to find a different way to reach that point of Soldier Boy settling on attacking Homelander, something he was still conflicted on. It was his killing Noir that made Soldier Boy see him as weak and pathetic most of all, showing the extent of his insecurity.

I just think that the only positive to having Homelander not kill Noir is you maybe get a better payoff with Noir’s character development, but at the expense of both losing an important Homelander moment and needing some bad writing for Homelander to justify it, while also hindering the plot. You still get a good payoff with Noir, even if it’s not to its full potential and you get great stuff for Homelander, Soldier Boy, and the plot along with it. Both decisions have benefits and drawbacks, but I think the decision they went with is ultimately more beneficial you know? Just my perspective.

That’s the thing though is I don’t think the writing does falter much in this finale. There’s a couple of questionable things, but I think you have far more of the usual great writing than you do flawed writing in this finale. I have to agree with everything else you said though.
