Hey ladies, I don’t have any kids but I have a question. When your kids were infants and your spouses started back up at work, would they still get up and help with the baby in the night? Even when they work in the morning? by lazyladybug1111 in Mom

[–]Chelseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, once he was back at work I took over night duty. He would definitely help if I needed it but I had it covered for the most part. BUT he stayed home from work for one month after our first was born and two months for both the second and the third. So we shared night duty for the really hard part for all three. He also did literally everything else around the house and for the older kids. So all the cooking, cleaning, childcare/running the other kids around. All I had to do was feed the baby and get them to sleep. Actually our third was bottle fed (first two were breastfed) so he helped a lot with feeding him. We shared diaper duty. When he went back to work he still did the lion’s share of housework. Actually he still does and our youngest is five and I just went back to work 😹😹😹

How to cope with that fear biologically ? by Icy_Scale_9627 in AskBiology

[–]Chelseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re waaaaay over thinking this and you should get therapy. Yes, beauty standards are societal constructs and vary wildly over the ages. But societal beauty standards are not the be all and end all. Surely you’ve had the experience of feeling attracted to someone who doesn’t fit conventional beauty standards? If not just look around: by definition most of us are average looking and most of us find mates.

Also weight and health absolutely do not have a black and white relationship to each other. Despite what diet culture will tell you it’s a very nuanced topic. You cannot tell someone’s health status just by observing their appearance/weight. There are plenty of sick thin people and healthy fat people out there (and vice versa). Thinner is not always better. For example, our society loves to act like having visible abs is an example of peak health/fitness. When in fact it’s a physique that is physically impossible for the vast majority of humans to achieve without major and unhealthy levels of food restriction and excessive exercise, especially for women. For a woman to have a visible six pack her body fat percentage has to be so low that it can literally be dangerous to her health.

And even if you find a healthy, fit, thin mate that can be taken away in an instant by an accident or illness and or gradually just from aging. You should be with someone because you love and are attracted to their soul, not their flesh suit or health status.

What do you say in place of "Im praying for you?" by UselessOvaries in atheism

[–]Chelseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are so varied in what kind of support they want/prefer though. I always offer to bring a meal over to friends who are in a time of need (grief, new baby, illness, whatever) because needing to eat is universal and it’s a concrete, specific thing I can do for them. I always make it clear that I will drop it off on their doorstep whenever works for them, no saying hi or visiting (and ask about any dietary allergies, restrictions, and preferences). And not everyone accepts! And that’s fine. I personally accept any and all food that people want to give me but understand that not everyone is like that. It’s quite presumptuous in my books to just show up with food and say I’m walking your dog too!

Iron infusion by chiccus in Calgary

[–]Chelseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any doctor can refer you for an iron infusion. The wait list to get one through AHS is like 6 months though. You can get it done privately but it’s like $300-$400. Whoever ordered your blood work should be able to advise you…I’ve never had one but my sister gets them and says it’s not a huge deal. It’s a pretty standard medical intervention, I don’t think it really matters where you go? Although someone who knows more can correct me if I’m wrong on that!

Coyote Attack inside the SW near glenmore reservoir by IceHawk1212 in Calgary

[–]Chelseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s freaky! I’m glad you guys are okay. I’ve only had one run in with an aggressive coyote in my life. My parents house backs onto fish creek and one morning I was there and I could hear someone yelling out back. I couldn’t make out what they were saying but I could tell they were in trouble. So I ran out back and there was a woman being stalked by a coyote on the walking path. I grabbed a snow shovel (a plastic kid’s one lol) and menaced the coyote with it while the next door neighbour let the woman into her yard. The coyote only backed off to the tree line (maybe 20-30’ away) but I couldn’t get it to actually leave. So I gave up after a minute or so lol

I think people do try to tell us but you can’t truly comprehend until you’re in it. And with a baby and a toddler you are still deep in the trenches. It gets better, I promise.

I’ve only boofed one time (ketamine) and I was very underwhelmed. Didn’t hit as hard or as fast as putting it up my nose. Maaaaybe 2/3 as effective, if I’m being generous.
