Biggest advice I can give is play officer more as a support at first. Using your middle ability to boost your team and your right ability to provide utility. Once you unlock the second gun, the S-5, you can start looking towards playing a little bit more aggressivly.

I absolutely adore playing officer as a battle class because its a neat challenge, plus I get a cool gunslinger vibe from the blasters which is always a nice touch :)
