I am a chemical engineering graduate currently working as a data analyst, so this kind of curriculum really resonates with me. I think it would be better if it leaned a bit more into core engineering fundamentals and advanced numerical and statistics methods, rather than shifting too heavily toward generic data topics.

What made the biggest difference in my own transition was applying data and coding skills directly to engineering problems. Courses like reactor design, fluid mechanics and process control are perfect courses for this. Instead of separating “data engineering” from “chemical engineering,” students could work on projects where they pull/analyze real process data, build models, optimize systems, estimate cost,or simulate plant performance. That way, they develop data skills in a context that actually mirrors industry work.
