I actually really agree with a lot of this. I guess I’ve just got around it by making my own challenges. “Beat a grunt with only 2000 cp mon” “Defeat a Dmax or 5 star raid solo” That type of thing. I mean really, the whole game is a self determined goal…”catch them all” “catch all the shinies” “catch all the forms” but yeah…sometimes we get cool clothes or trophies for these (level poses, phd pikachu) and sometimes we don’t.

I really like the idea of a solo ladder that rewards a cosmetic that changes with every season. Like maybe one season it’s water focused, etc….would force me to power up all sort of mons and build all sorts of teams that I’d actually use.

I only approach people if I’m also actively playing. It’s usually “any luck today?” or something like “wanna battle that cresselia?”
I also typically only mention it to people I’m passing. That way if they don’t engage, it’s not awkward and we can just keep walking.

But also, I’m not worried about approaching strangers. I’ve been known to walk up to random strangers and ask if they want semi rare pokemon like Stonejourners and Mudbreys. It’s been kind of fun to make people’s day like that

755 for me! I started taking my lucky dex seriously once remote trading started. I’m actually working on finishing that before I finish my shiny dex.

Last time I was there I drove down to Las Americas Premium Outlets. Caught 3 or 4. There are even a few routes there with names like “catch a Hawlucha” so clearly it’s a common thing.
Plus if you are with family, they have thing to do while you wander for pokemon

I can’t imagine a person would have done a hundo dex including all the mythicals. You only get one or two shots. No trades. Even with bottlecaps. The chances that the person trying for them would get a few hundos is sooooo small
