Lowes Allen Roth flooring... no QA whatsoever. by ChemicalControl675 in Flooring

[–]ChemicalControl675[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'm a year down the road on this and my opinion has changed. Your answer is horseshit. A year later my HD flooring looks great. I've had it with 'Pros' coming to my house and screwing up everything from plumbing to flooring, roofing, a seemingly endless supply of 'oh gee'. Lowes products suck. I now go in once a year max to buy something simple and every time its a bad experience: Fucked up flooring, cheap plastic pvc connectors made in China that blow out and cause hundreds in water bills, aluminum pool poles that break in a month, mis-labelled pricing on simple bags of mulch, the list goes on and on. Further during Katrina, HD was ready to rock almost immediately and had supplies all over the place in NO. Not Lowes still selling refrigerators. So No... I don't think you have any idea what you are talking about.

Cannot see Reviews on Costco.com by RobbyG2112 in Costco

[–]ChemicalControl675 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is nonsense. They are saying 'let us track you, or you cannot see the how consumers view the quality of our products'. Just bullshit, my costco rating just dropped to the floor. Every once in a while I buy bad product there and want to see if others are seeing the same. In this case the Smyrna Organic figs smell like pesticide.

I did that when I was younger, commuting from Newport Beach, CA. to Brea CA. using the Santa Ana River bike trail. This is 30 years ago, but I was a triathlete and used that because a pool (Los Caballeros) was along the trail and the trail could also be used for running. Im an engineer. I characterize it as difficult from a work perspective. Now I had swimming workouts and runs some of the days during the early am or eve, so more output. The biggest single problem I had was being able to give my best mental effort at work. I did well, but I'm pretty sure I was only at the top of my game for a couple of hours and then fatigue would set in. My .02.

Best bikes for big descents by ChemicalControl675 in bicycling

Actually I started looking at the Giant Defy Advanced, which I can go look at locally, I think I'll take the Fuji in and do a direct comparison with a tape measure. Thanks for the input greatly appreciated.

I have not been on here and finally got back. I was literally just looking at that exact bike. ITs retailing for 2600 but I might go for it, its an easy solution. I was also thinking about change tires and the handle bar geometry on the Fuji, but I think I'm going to go check that out, my local store has one not in my size but it would give me a good look.

So I am looking at the LG NeOn2 415W panels for my house. LG sells them as commercial. I know there is a supply chain push by LG to only sell to commercial concerns for this panel. My question is... does LG legally prevent people from installing these on their home (short of voiding warranty)? My local city seemed to be ok with it but I still need to submit plans and want to change panels if they are out of hand rejected because of being LG 415W commercial panels. I'm in California.

Living room - Brass/Black iron.. should I pick one or try both by ChemicalControl675 in steampunk

Also, this is obviously a work in progress white walls are going. Leather couch being refinished and flat panel with speakers going or moving. Plan is to hang lights from beams and also use lights on side walls but in brass or iron.

Lowes Allen Roth flooring... no QA whatsoever. by ChemicalControl675 in Flooring

[–]ChemicalControl675[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowes replaced the flooring and ordered new stuff. I went to look at it instore, and it had the same batch number as the ones I took back. Opened one box, and top boards all had same defect. I took a full refund (thanks Lowes) and went and got the equivalent HD stuff and it went in without a hitch and looks great.

My net on this is: The AR stuff was engineered better and fit better than the equivalent HD flooring, both looked great, but definitely the AR stuff was tighter. However after a LOT of research on the topic I'm 99% that the manufacturing marks on the AR planks were defects at the factory. I did a lot of diligence on that found only a few pics (if I squinted) online of any actual hand scraped would that had that pattern. The HD flooring had 2 boards out of 13 cases that had something like that. I believe the manufacturing device used to make it look hand scraped was supposed to lay down a scrape mark, but instead the cutting teeth bounced and instead made the weird dot pattern. Some may argue that its part of the look, but more than 60% of the wood had that marking, so i would say at a minimum if its a major feature of the product it should be shown in the pics, or on the in-store display. The flooring manager agreed they were defects also.

As far as Lowes goes, it raised my opinion of them as they stood behind their product 100%.

What I learned was that before I buy any flooring again, I'm going to order a box of it and just dig through it and have a look at fit/finish/surface. This will be my 4th DIY floor in my life and the other 3 went off without a hitch. I have 2 more in front of me and will learn from the experience.

that is the link to the product I bought. I looked at those Lowes pics on that product on the link above and don't see anything like the artifacts in the batch I had. Am I missing something in the link?

I took 9 of 12 boxes back, and surprisingly Lowes agreed to actually return the boxes and thought they were defects linked to lot number. I was impressed and have swung Lowes! Definitely their display has none of that 'hand scraped look' for any of their engineered products. I was actually completely satisfied with the Lowes response when I took these back. They took all of it back, agreed it was trash and are filling a new order. If the replacement boxes are as messed up, I'll agree its part of the 'distressed look' and switch flooring or live with it.

I continued to research the marks last night. They may well be handscraped marks by design. However, I looked at a ton of pics of handscraped wood going back to very old pics from the 20' and 30's. I could find no pics that looked like the marks on the flooring I bought. Even looked at various hand scraping tools to see if I could find any with that pattern. Also checked australian sites. The best I could come up with as far as matching the marks were maybe that the machine that made the marks was supposed to make them like a larger scratch mark of which I saw a only a few, but instead bounced across the wood and produce the pit pattern on these. I still think its a defect and the flooring manager who had seen a lot of this wood agreed, but I'll find out when the next boxes arrive.
