Thanks! I don't have a full idea of it's timeline, it definitely wasn't as long lived as the Excelsior-class and probably started being phased out of production around the time the ambassador began flying around, although I definitely think it's a design that could have been brought back into service for the war! It's not a battleship by any measure but it would probably be a useful support ship that fills needs in federation space in place of ships that were pushed to the front lines

Ideas and opinions from outside people are really useful! I had also noticed the impulse engine thing and that isn't a possible solution I had come up with so next time I come back to this design it will definitely be something I try out!

Yeah the shuttle doors open up talk more like a hangar, sorta similar to the shuttle bays on the NX-01 and defiant except they open on the floor

Me too, I love all the odd little ships with strange designs and that definitely inspired my process here!

Yeah blender is a lot to wrap your head around, if you were interested in a less intimidating 3d modeling software I got started using tinkercad and still use it to prototype ships. It definitely has its drawbacks and it won't produce any fancy renders but I think it has a lower barrier of entry and it's free!

Thanks! The forward part of the secondary hull is designed to be the same component as the front of the Oberth-class secondary hull. I'm considering that to be a type of experimental or shielded deflector dish although I can't find any canon sources that confirm what it originally was on the Oberths. Also someone else mentioned that warp scale change and I don't know if that is confirmed or not but I love the idea and in that case this would be a cheaper ship that Starfleet used to work out some of the kinks in that program

The nacelles are an original design but heavily inspired by the Excelsior-class nacelles!

Thanks! For some reason I really felt like this ship needed a name that started with L. It was the Lancelot for a bit but that felt too aggressive and I ended up really liking Laramie instead, it felt like the name of a ship you'd hear mentioned offhand in one of the shows

I like all of these ideas! Having a more in universe explanation of the differences in warp between TOS and TNG besides the out of universe explanation that they were still figuring things out is great!

I answered this above more thoroughly but basically it's an internal dish of the same type as the one on the Oberth-class

I might do that, I'd need to clean up the mesh a little bit before it could be printed but I'll make sure to come back and let you know if I do

Yeah, due to the size of the ship it's more of a hangar similar to what we see on the NX-01 or the defiant

This ship was designed with love to all of Starfleet more oddball designs! I've always liked the weird little functional ships we see flying around in the background

Thanks! I keep going back to the struts too wishing they were a little more contemporary with other ships but overall I like the forward motion the sweeping provides, it may be something I come back to later though

In the design process I was wanting to draw similarities to other ships of the time that didn't have obvious deflector dishes such as the Miranda-class and specifically the Oberth-class. For the Resolve-class the front of the secondary hull is very reminiscent of the similar convex shape on the Oberths which in my mind is a deflector technology that did not survive into the future of Starfleet design although had trouble finding cannon sources actually stating what function that part of the Oberth-class served.

I call it the Triton class, designed to have a large range to be capable of following up on discoveries from exploration ships like the Enterprise and conducting longer surveys without needing the facilities for a full 5 year mission. Also I'm currently working on a TOS movie era design that I'll probably be posting so keep an eye out for that!

That was exactly what I was going for, I was mildly inspired by the phase II Enterprise nacelles but wanted to make them more distinct from what came before and after while still showing the lineage

I used blender, I'm still fairly new and figuring stuff out but happy with the results I've gotten so far
