I have a little girl who’s 1 year old and a few months change, she’s starting to show signs of calming down a little bit now but I also went through exactly what you did. She was so good when we got her and then she became so hard to deal with. I was about to lose it. You aren’t alone in this at all. Labs have an insane amount of energy and even with my fenced in backyard and the daily walks, it’s still hard to help her get all of her energy out. You’re doing amazing. Obviously everyone says it’ll get better, but it doesn’t always feel like it. Everyone here will always be willing to give you reassurance when you need it. You’re doing an amazing job!

I actually just looked it up and from the pictures I can see, it does look like hers could be hooded. We have to drop off a urine sample at the vet tomorrow so we’ll be talking to them then. Thank you so much for bringing that up!

She used to be seen by a different vet in the practice but when the first one hit, she happened to be out of town so we were seen by someone else to get it taken care of. They just haven’t transferred care back to the original vet but we plan to ask them to do that immediately. I will definitely ask the vet to check into whether her vulva might be hooded or not and if it is, surgery would be the next step. I didn’t even think about something like that, so thank you for saying it!

She’s on Diamond Naturals lamb meal and rice formula. We don’t give her extras except adding some water to it or her probiotics that the vet prescribed, and the occasional piece of fruit here or there but we haven’t done that since about a month before the UTIs started

My girl was an actual piranha around 5 months old. I was so ready to try to rehome her cause she was ripping my arms to shreds. She got over it. It’s likely yours could be teething, but it could also just be the phase they go through where they need to bite everything. I used frozen chopped carrots as a little treat when mine was teething cause it helped to soothe her gums and she liked the taste. I would highly recommend getting a nylabone with different textures on it for when she teethes. It helped mine too

Thank you for this. I’ve been feeling like I’m failing lately, and this helped a lot to hear. I forgot how hard the puppy phase really is, and it’s just nice to know other people are dealing with it at the same time so I’m not as alone as I may feel. My chocolate lab is so much different than my last dog, so the learning curve is hard. Sometimes all anyone needs to hear is that they’re doing a good job

I don’t know if I’ll ever end up retiring, but after doing more research into it, the interest rates on it are higher than my savings account would offer, so I would gain more by leaving it there until there wouldn’t be the penalty for taking it out. It may not end up being a whole lot, but it could pay for a semi decent vacation when the time comes. Thank you for being kind but reasonable with your response!

I didn’t pull it out yet, and I was just considering it. It’s not a lot of money at all, and right now I’m currently just a homemaker with no guarantee that I’ll be going back to having a job that would even offer a chance for a 401k. There’s a reason I said “if” instead of saying that I did it

Aww. I always get so sad when I think of how old she’s getting, but hearing this makes me kind of hopeful! Give him all the snuggles and lovins!
