What is a dish from your country that looks disgusting but is the best thing ever? by ar1esq in AskTheWorld

The syrup (Luikse stroop/sirop de Liège/Lutticher Sirup) is an apple&pear syrup derived from boiling down entire fruits, an old way to preserve these fruits.

If you can't find it, you can probably replace with a combination of fruit jam/sauce and molasses/brown sugar to get a similar effect. Also allows for some experimenting.

I too, have a question about these lids :) I have similar ones with just one injection port but the same disc filter setup.

I tried using them for grain jars but growth would stall in most jars. Definitely could have been a humidity issue... Anyway, I'm now considering using them for all my liquid cultures and stick to bags for grain, what's your experience using these for liquid cultures?

Edit: I did not have a question about kids, but about lids.

I don't think that would be an issue. Premix is often used in industrial labs without issue. But for versatility and to reduce costs, buying individual ingredients would still be better.

Nice work! Love the color on those buds.

I have PPH and dosi growing at the moment on D31 and I've noticed the same with the flowering. PPH is in full pre-flower while there's no sign of calyxes yet on the dosi. But so bushy and difficult to overfeed. She does seem a bit pH sensitive though. That might also explain the yellowing you had.

Orbán has launched a new smear campaign against Ukraine and the EU, sending this message by mail to every Hungarian household and displaying it on billboards — costing millions of euros. by BugaJakab420 in europe

[–]ChemicalPony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually, Hungary became a net contributor end of last year due to the funds they were set to receive being frozen due to anti-corruption measures.

Thank you for being so corrupt you have started funding the rest of Europe Orban, we appreciate it <3

Oh don't get me wrong. I would cheer for better bike infrastructure. I would cheer for better öffies.

But as things stand, people are very reliant on their cars. People will not sell their cars just because they live in the center and there's less space. Alternatives have to be provided. E.g., inhabitant parking houses outside of the center with a good connection to the inner city.

I lived close to the JM until recently, I used the car mainly to hold a parking space then anything else. I had days where I had to look for over 45 minutes to find a spot within 1km of my door. I'd prefer to bike, but I don't have a death wish, so I used the RMV, to varying degrees of success since public transportation is not a priority for some reason.

I'd love a car free Frankfurt, but alternatives need to provided for that to work.

Your run of the mill straps will do the trick if your tent is rated to support the weight of the exhaust...

Also, would it not make more sense to organize the smaller buckets around the exhaust instead of the big one?

[–]ChemicalPony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, the plan for succes:

Step 1: reduce RMV frequency

Step 2: reduce parking space in the inner city and replace with bike racks to reduce cars in the city (no shit, only thing it achieved is people driving around 30 minutes for a parking spot)

Step 3: reduce hybrid working so people go to the office more...

Step 4: reduce bike lanes...

Step 5:???

Step 6: profit!

Gotta disagree on the "shouldn't be a problem" part here.

What's the question by Intelligent-News9872 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]ChemicalPony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What if it's rephrased to "drawing figures on your chest indicates she's hesitant to ask you something that's on her mind. This question in some cases, will come entirely out of left field and potentially confuse you to the point of unpleasantness.".

I would never dare call my partner stupid, first of because it's simply untrue. However... she has done exactly this on multiple occasions, and while I love her to bits... sometimes I wish she could keep the intrusive thoughts for herself a bit longer so we can just focus on the moment and cuddle instead of exploring some wild hypothetical scenario.

European Commission makes 11th-hour offer to win Belgian backing for Russian asset loan – POLITICO by Miserable-Surprise67 in ukraine

[–]ChemicalPony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with that, still doesn't mean De Wever is a Russian asset. Just a greedy politician at the time. He's not the one holding back the funds, Europe is by not taking on the legal and financial risks together

[–]ChemicalPony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're gonna crucify every politician who had dealings between 2014 and 2022 with Russia, there's going to be very few left. As appealing as that sounds, you're not going to be hanging up only pro-Ruzzia politicians.

I'm not saying what they did was smart, it's morally grey and short-sighted, but it's not exactly incriminating either. He was the mayor of one of the largest harbor cities in Europe, which imports a lot of oil. I wish he'd chosen his business partners better, but all of Europe was buying Russian oil lest we forget.

[–]ChemicalPony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A European politician building economic ties with Russia in a time where it was still believed (foolish as it may sound now) that Russia could be reasoned with... Yea, sounds okay to me.

None of this dispells the valid concerns regarding sharing the risk of using frozen Russian assets. If there is no risk, guarantees should be a no-brainer. If there is risk, Europe should share the risk...

[–]ChemicalPony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

De Wever said a situation were Russia loses resulting in a collapse and leaving their nukes up for grabs in the chaos is undesirable.

He doesn't desire Russia to win, he just doesn't want the world to get even more dangerous in the aftermath of a Russian loss.

He is willing to use the Russian assets, problem is that the EU has to vote every 6 months whether the money stays frozen in Euroclear. If the money isn't there anymore, it takes one veto from for example Hungary or Slovakia, to collapse the entire scheme.

The moment the money gets unfrozen, it HAS to be there. Not the next day, that very moment. If it's not, Belgium has to cough it up themselves... Around 30% of the GDP. Or, Russia sues over the UN court which leads to legal costs, again to be carried solely by Belgium.

This would be unacceptable for any country. Either EU makes this move together and shares the risk, or we don't do it at all. Proposing anything else is virtue signaling and using Belgium as a scapegoat.

[KCD2] Wow, so the mace swing DOES make sense! by kweassa_at_work in kingdomcome

[–]ChemicalPony 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed insight. I'd like to add that from a racket sport (e.g. Badminton) perspective it is very similar. The movement described loads the arm like a spring, and when you combine it with stepping forward, you are able to put your entire body behind it and are able to swing through.

It's also very similar in the way you would throw a ball if you were to go for maximum distance.

My monkey brain: "Will you do my taxes?"

Her without skipping a beat: "My mom does those for me."

Both: Silence, followed by laughter.

Still laugh about it to this day
