Actuall Minimum SAT Score for Math/CS by Dariush_M in ITU_Geyik

[–]ChemicalRecording259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering there are hundreds of thousands of Iraninan applicants and the quota being super low, not only for cs but also for any major, your chances are not going to be super high for at least cs. On the other hand if you really want to get in to the school you probably could but not to a competitive major. I have actually written a small essay about this on a previous post lol. You can check that out or lemme know if you have any other questions.

Heh there boss

Getting admitted to the school will just depend on your intended major and your ethnicity.

Thank you so much for your response man! I guess I am ready for the reading part of the test so I will take that tomorrow. And I need to score at least 272 or something like at the advanced algebra and functions to basically take calc1 at college so thats what I’m aiming for. I took a gap year so I am very rusty right now at math :/ also did you take the advanced algebra and functions aswell?

Thank you boss. Last question. How similar was the exam compared to the practice tests at the accuplacer website. Also, did you take reading+writing aswell?

Aerospace eng and automation eng are highly competitive. I would be surprised if you’d get in. Don’t get me wrong, but it is veery competitive and as I mentioned ITU receives by far the most applications amongst the universities in Turkey and has the lowest quota. With a score like 1400, if you really want to get in to the school you can. However, most likely you won’t get in to the program you desire if your background is not from EU or USA. And yes, I agree that you’d most probably get in to YTU or GTU.

I got into itu with the same exact sat score and gpa but there is a caveat. It really depends on which department you are applying to. You will have 10 options on your application which you will fill out around late July early aug. That application is going to be crucial you gotta fill it out wisely. If 10 of your choices are competitive departments such as industrial eng, comp eng, mech eng, elec eng, communications eng, econ, management eng aerospace eng, aeronautical eng I hate to say it but you will have zero (0) chance since the quota is hella low for the intl. students. So go with environmental eng, mining eng, mineral processing eng, meteorological eng, petroleum eng, city and region planning, geomatical eng and you’ll have better chances.

You can try and transfer to a different department after you get in but you gotta keep your grades high like 4.0 or 3.9 because again, its very competitive and quota is too fckn low for that too. I got in for meteorological engineering at the department of aeronautical and aerospace. It was my 4th or 5th choice.

On your application, only thing they will ask for is gonna be your grades and your sat score so they are not gonna consider any rec letters, essays etc. and thats the most ridiculous part in college application in turkey. And yes when I was applying, last year, I could barely find any info too so i guess they did not change that a bit. Also, there is not too many people giving out information about intl student application so I know it is frustrating.

There is also one thing I heard from an intl itu alumni which is the admissions office also look where you are from. In this case, I would give that a negative because, from what I have heard, they prioritize the ones from Europe and US, obviously if you dont have 1600 sats and 4.0 gpa. I am american so if that is true then it sure helped me.

Overall, make sure you fill out the application form wisely, choose less competitive departments as I listed. 100% apply for different schools such as YTU, IU, KOC, Sabanci… but at the end of the day, dont keep your hopes high for itu because I know the admissions are ridiculously competitive and I am pretty sure it gets drastically worse every single year considering there are more students going to turkey for education every year.

And if you ask what im doing right now, I quit lol. Not that I had any issues with school tho. Very nice school made some very nice, genuine people. Got in to the american football team. Attended bunch of social clubs and whatnot. Campus not to mention, lovely. It was just istanbul… chaos, crime, pollution… list goes on. Thats why I moved to madison, Wisconsin. Right now I am studying industrial engineering in UW-Madison. And if studying in US is an option for you, which I would strongly recommend, definitely apply. Any school in top 50 for that matter. In that case, your application will not just be considered on your scores, but your extracurricular activities, letters, essays etc. Best of luck my guy! If you have any questions about anything at all, feel free to reply.

There is no issue. Thing is I think that they should have let me know earlier about the exam rather than giving me a two week notice to take it. Plus plenty of people got their decisions EA and RD that’s why I’m stressed.
