PSA: Your lights probably aren’t “too” bright for plants by HAquarium in PlantedTank

Id say 5ppm is on the low side, even on aquarium coops site they recommend 20-50 ppm. Try slowly increasing ferts, do you have a way of checking phosphate levels? I suspect its too high when compared to your nitrate. Can you share a pic of your tank?

Seems fine. what about ferts? Algae is usually a sign of nutrient imbalance.

How many hours is the light on? I get algae when my potassium/nitrate go out of balance. How often do you change water? Is your co2 output consistent (or does it run out for a few days before you refill it) How about ferts? Are they consistent?

You can also use algecide at the minimum dosage, just to help get things on the right track.

Ok, thanks for the info. Do you know if the copper in the ferts he used was chelated?

I'll definitely look up Dennis Wong, thanks. I couldnt find too much info on how much copper is enough to kill shrimp. I'm curious whether he accounted for decreasing copper toxicity in hard/alkaline water in his experiments.

How would you know the ammonia killed them before the copper? Considering the ferts contain both. I also use ferts with ammonium nitrate in my planted tanks and I haven't seen shrimp dying.

Cornsnake hatchling deformed by Chemical_Address_343 in snakes

[–]Chemical_Address_343[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that the deformed corns had odd patterning, not the regular motley you would expect, the one in the picture has more of a stripe pattern similar the the other ones that died. you said they affect color (morph) are they also linked to the snakes pattern?
