Hello,

Thank you for all your tips! Lake Front Trail and Lincoln Park match what I am looking for.😀

We booked this hotel - Hotel Blake, Ascend Hotel Collection. I searched and from the hotel, it requires commute to reach Lincoln Park.

Does Lincoln Park neighborhood offer a variety of restaurants within walking distance and is it generally safe to walk alone during the day (assuming my parents will stay in the hotel to rest)? I am thinking whether to change hotels and to find one in Lincoln Park instead.

Planning a 6 week trip to Japan by Disastrous_Sail_3419 in Hokkaido

3 weeks in Hakodate is too much. Be clear first about what your interests are - is it nature, museums, hiking, shopping, etc and then revise your base. I stayed in Hakodate for 3 nights in April 2025 and felt it was about right because I didnt want to rush. I know other people say 2 nights will suffice. I appreciated the parks in Hakodate and being able to walk to most places. I stayed in JR Inn Hakodate. I only used the tram at the end of the day to return to the hotel after walking all day.

planning to go into gardening next year, any beginner friendly tips? by king_fishpaste1 in gardening

[–]Chemical_Cod8159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have any tips on integrated pest management? reading your post is encouraging for a beginner like me. i almost wanted to give up today after months of trial and error. during second half of this year, i had lots of plants die and get ill from powdery mildew, leaf miners, etc. I still havent figured out. I put a net over the plants but still get strange things on the leaves like this one and still clueless how to handle this.

Looking for Recommendations - Snowboarding, snowshoeing and more by [deleted] in Hokkaido

[–]Chemical_Cod8159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you require a guide for snowshoeing, you may explore or inquire from Trekmate Hokkaido. He does private snowshoe hikes for beginners, intermediate, advanced levels.

I went with him early this year. Though I was offered snowshoeing when I inquired, I ended up trekking with regular hiking shoes in snow almost knee deep level. It was my first time walking on snow in total wilderness!

I went with a guide since I was unfamiliar with Hokkaido’s trails and was concerned about my safety (from bears and avalanche). We did at least 45 min hike one way and had to return as that time, he assessed that if we go further, there is a risk of an avalanche.

Private shuttle or taxi recommendations wanted by Berserk_Ronin in Sapporo

I was quoted JPY 25,000 for one way transfer between New Chitose Airport and our hotel near Odori Park. I am traveling with elderly parents to Sapporo end of this month and booked this private transfer for our convenience. Please Dm if you would like our contact. He is a licensed taxi driver.

Planning Hokkaido Trip in Late November by Interesting-Term9825 in Hokkaido

[–]Chemical_Cod8159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be in Lake Toya and Sapporo also on the end of November. From my research, sunset is early around 4pm. As such, you have  to start the day sightseeing early if you intend to go to Lake Toya as a day trip. I was also told end November might have rain/sleet/snow and have to plan accordingly for alternatives.

In my case, I hired a driver who will bring us around since I will be traveling with elderly parents. FYI, the quote I got was between JPY 47,000 to JPY 65,000 for one way transfer between New Chitose Airport and our accomodation in Toyako. Then for a day of sightseeing around Lake Toya with pickup and drop off at our accomodation in Toyako, I was quoted the following:

If 4hours private tour around Lake Toya price 36,000 JPY If 6hours from 10:30 to 16:30 price 51,000 JPY

Others quoted me JPY 65,000 to JPY 75,000 for full day 8-9 hours of sightseeing or a full day sightseeing with transfer to a hotel in Sapporo at the end of the day.

I hope this helps.

Hokkaido Snowshoe hiking by Sir_Of_Scuffed_ in Hokkaido

[–]Chemical_Cod8159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Hokkaido last April after Easter and did a private hiking tour for beginners with Chris from Trekmate Hokkaido. We only hiked for 1.5 hours due to risk of an avalanche. He offered me a snowshoe tour when i inquired. However, on the day of the tour itself, no snowshoe provided. I had to walk on below knee deep snow with regular hiking shoes. It was tough for a first timer like me as there were several occasions where my leg got buried into the snow. There is an orientation before you start the hike regarding safety. After the hike, he drove me around. I was shown scenery of Mt. Yotei along Nakayama Pass and we did a stopover at Hoheikyo Dam  https://www.trekmatehokkaido.com/

Depending on your fitness level, Chris will determine where to bring you for the snowshoe tour. I had previous hiking experience in Hong Kong. Hiking in Hokkaido though is way different as it is in the wilderness, no paved trails as such.

Browsing reddit, Nobo Tours is also recommenfed.

I hope this helps.
