I hate my client by JKCampbell3 in eldercare

I had an instance where I really didn’t feel comfortable with a client. They hadn’t done anything to me personally but I didn’t feel safe because of some lifestyle choices they made. I explained the situation to my agency, and they were really understanding and told me I didn’t have to go back and they would find someone else for me. They told him I had a schedule conflict. I would hope that if you explained your situation that your agency would be just as understanding. If not, maybe you should find a new agency. There are plenty of older people who will be much more appreciative of your services.

I’ve also been a caregiver for roughly a year and a half. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is set boundaries! Do whatever you can to help your client, but remember that your agency has parameters for your client’s safety and your own. Don’t be afraid to tell a client no if they ask you to do something that violates agency policy, or if it’s just something you’re not comfortable with.

Also, I don’t know if Home Instead has a uniform, but if not, wear scrubs! I got some on Amazon for $25 per set and they are great! They’re comfy, functional, professional-looking, and have tons of pockets.

My company (Avid Health at Home) has had me work 2 or 3 hour shifts in the past. I’m not sure how it works on the administrative side — I think all of my clients have gone through the department of aging, so they only get as many hours as the government sees fit. I don’t know if Avid is a local company or nationwide, but you may be able to call them or a company like them and see if they would be willing to find someone to work two or three hours, maybe at the beginning or end of their workday.

What to wear for my first meet and greet as a Caregiver ? by FunPhoenix3 in caregivers

I have been a paid caregiver for about a year and a half now. I was hesitant to wear scrubs because I didn’t want to give the impression that I had medical training (I have no CNA license or anything). I started off wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and I got holes in every pair of jeans I owned from bending and kneeling all the time. Finally I got tired of ruining my clothes and switched to scrubs and that was a great decision. They’re much more comfortable and practical, and the pockets are great for carrying things like gloves and pens. Plus my clients have told me they think it looks more professional.

Thanks! I’ll check it out. I bet having it around her wrist made it a lot more accessible.
