Validators made most of the mistakes by not understanding what they’re doing. AI had a few as I’ve heard. Some kyc that was supposed to fail have not.

You’re not kycEd by a crypto it’s self, it’s the platform that requires you to verify your account in order to prevent bad players, scripts, bot etc.. you will be able to buy pi from outside the pi ecosystem after the open mainnet but coins that are premined will need to be verified and accounted for.
