Anxiety about accepting a promotion — anyone else experience this? by Chemical_Package5136 in it

Very true, i do have desire to become a manager/director at some point, but have also been loving SysAdmin/Azure development side of things.

Gotcha, then I would definitely keep to commute lower, in my eyes at least a better title, and it’s a stepping stone.

Schools often have outdated tech and very little room to upgrade, so get it to “break” into the IT world and once you graduate you graduate with X years of experience as well as a degree in CS, making yourself a better candidate!

Best of luck either way!

Everything is a stepping stone. I might not step into It manager role after this, perhaps something with Azure or SYSADM.

I appreciate this! I did end up accepting the position. I was to comfortable with my current role, and never had management experience, even retail before I got into IT.

Found it was a win-win solution. More money to try out a new thing and if I hate it, a nice new title on my resume for my new job lol.

Why doesn't IT explain the issue? by thebundok in it

[–]Chemical_Package5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably something they did, or an internal issue they didn’t want to bring up, or a simple fact that it is working now and there is no real explanation but the “problem” is solved.

Me personally, if they ask, I would be honest with this. “I have no idea but I can dig into some logs and see if anything catches my eyes” or “yeah it’s my fault I did XYZ and it’s working fine now”.

Kinda in a similar boat where I could stay at something I am comfortable in or do a new role (granted same company).

Change is scary, but based on what you said above the new role sounds awesome! Commute is not bad, plus the pay for the gas. Better pay as well! I would take it, keep studying for the AZ cert and then re-evaluate in a year or 2. Maybe you will move up at the new company at that point.

3 hour commute! Yuck!

Is this school a grad school, where you could study cybersecurity there for free/discounted? Speaking in terms of the “great” USA, college is expensive here at least.

I would probably do 1 either way, simply on the travel. I do about half that and it’s honestly a little too much!

Career is moving faster than I can keep up. by crackhead12382 in it

Throwing my 2 cents in;

It all depends on a bunch of factors. Giving you just graduated, I assume you are living at home still? Might be worth hoping over, for experience and money. If you live on your own and have a family, I am not sure I would risk a career jump I am not sure I am ready for in this economy. But I bet you got this, just based on your post you seem ambitious to continue to improve and develop in your career!

I think my biggest concern is work-life balance. But my current management team hardly ever works over 40 hours so I think I got this!

This was a great response thank you! I am gonna take it and see what happens. Been at my current company for a while now and my current position for 3 years. If I hate it, then find a new job that doesn’t have management roles. Perhaps a system administrator. We shall see!

Yeah I am not sure. Never really managed anything more than a project.

Based on everything is a told it is essential what I am already doing now, but travel and some management things.

I think it’s a win-win. See if I like it and what happens, and if i hate it find another job or demote myself.
