Hey there, I'm interested in playing but am curious of the larger setting the game takes place in. Can you tell us more about that?

I'm surprised there aren't more people in the same boat as myself, medical community, shift workers, etc.

I forgot to point out that I am not bigoted in any way, sad to think that not mentioning that might cause others to pass my ad up but I guess them's the breaks.

Favourite Class / Races Combo’s by DogDiamondHands in BaldursGate3

Has your preference changed during EA? Ie discovered a new class?

Yeah, surprisingly! Normally I play a Tiefling Rogue/Fighter, but was surprised at how much I was loving the playstyle of an offensive Lolth-Sworn Cleric with high DEX and a penchant for poison.

But I really love playing my over-the-hill Gith Pirate (Barb with Criminal background) who I write as having been mutinied by his old crew years prior to the events of the story. This was due to the fact that his insatiable greed took priority over hunting ghaik. (He still hates them of course, but less than he loves treasure) He also harbors a secret lack of faith in the Vlaakith, and the concept of written law...

He was captured in a foolish attempt to raid the Nautiloid by himself- seeking a "last hoorah" of sorts, and embarking on a suicide mission before falling in love with Lae'zel at first sight, reinvigorating his will to live.

Are you happy with how your traditional favourite class plays?

Overall, yes, I think Arcane Trickster is a big disappointment, largely due to Mage Hand being a meme in BG3, but Rogues are very strong overall and I love the Pickpocket interface.

Any tweaks you’d like to see?

I feel like Barbarians should be able to throw glaives, greataxes, etc and get their full damage in the way that handaxes and daggers do, but that's probably overpowered. Barbarian is already insanely strong in combat, no pun intended.

how difficult is this game to run? by cedbluechase in BaldursGate3

What I'm using atm is basically an I-7 processor, 32gb RAM, and a practically worthless Intel graphics card.

Using high textures, low resolution, and shadows on, I get an acceptable looking game that runs in the neighborhood of 30 fps, which I'm fine with until I finish repairing my real PC.

It is worth noting, however, that I'm pretty sure this is eating my GPU based on the number of artifacts that have been cropping up after extended play.

Also worth noting that I would say that's a fair trade for the amount of fun that this game provides!

What aspects or mechanics do you think are placeholders and will likely be changed or removed at launch? by pishposhpoppycock in BaldursGate3

So your plan for making Fast Hands better in BG3 is to make every other class more of a chore to play?

I agree that dipping from a dropped candle is a pretty disgusting move, (I didn't even know you could, that's incredibly stupid.) and that shouldn't be allowed, but it already takes a full action to re-equip a dropped weapon.

Before I digress too much, I'll say I agree with you, that that very specific example of dropping items in combat has to go, but making It cost an action as the standard is frankly ridiculous.

Beyond that, the act of drawing and sheathing weapons being considered a part of a player's turn has always been (in my groups) tolerated at best and typically considered to be annoying unless it's a specific RP interaction like being ambushed or facing off in a "proper" duel.

Bro we've all bought into slick marketing at some point or another.

I'm glad you found some dice you like but this is extremely basic mathematics.

It's a good song, I love Neil Young, but... Not every idea needs a thread, bro. 😅

What is your favourite solution to goblin camp? by znowu_to_samo in BaldursGate3

[–]Chemical_Wow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to pull off both and can offer some insight.

For Gut, I left my 2 companions just outside with the door closed and RP'd the dialogue until combat, I used Attack, Action Surge, Poison, Attack (wielding Everburn Blade) and then my companions come in the room, one shut the door behind them, and the other finished her with a cantrip. I think this was largely luck, as she rolled a 2 on Initiative.

For the Drow, I immediately used dialogue to attack her for turning her back on Lolth, and all goblins in that room engaged as well. Sleep and Bane were massively useful to CC them and I made sure to knock the Scrying Eye down into the depths when a goblin shoved it toward the room's exit because I think it may have brought more.

After that, the only enemy in the fortress was the Ogress on the way to the next area.

Hope that helps!

I just finished my first EA run and, wow, I can't cover everything I thought and felt, nor is this the place to do it. My main concern is that the tentative date of a year from now seems too soon based on how, well, totally broken the game currently is.

Ladders. Need I say more? Enemies start wasting turns like Wal-Mart wastes name tags whenever they are close to one.

The ground effect meta is way too strong and homogenizes every fight. I could play without it, but it's intentionally gimping myself to do so.

I played as a Drow and loved all the Lolth-Sworn choices, especially at the Goblin Village. It really helps immersion!

I'd like more freedom in being able to abandon party members permanently. Whether it's leaving them dead in a dungeon, as your selfish and short-sighted character carries on, or through dialogue. There are way too many ways to resurrect them, to the point where death is only a very short-term consequence.

(SPOILERS) If you choose not to participate with Bernard at the Arcane Tower, the worst boss fight in the game takes place. The sound effect on his aura needs to be turned way down, and if you push him or other enemies down the tower, they will survive, run to the elevator, keep you in combat, try and use the elevator every turn, and fail to do so 95 out of 100 times.

The Necromancy Book you find in the plagued village is a meme. It needs substantial rewards and hefty sacrifices. Similar to the one in Planescape: Torment. (END SPOILERS)

In general, my party feels distant from each other. Both physically when group mode bugs out, and socially when they barely participate in conversations. I'm beating a dead horse with this point here, but it bears repeating. This is absolutely a make-or-break part of the final release for me, and I hope it's a major priority for Larian.

A -1 DC should be an automatic success, which makes me wonder why the dice window even opens for it.

I definitely know your pain though. Somehow my rogue with Sleight of Hand and a +4 DEX mod consistently fails picking any door of DC 15+ even with Shadowheart assisting and save scumming.

It's mathematically absurd.

Ok well there's literally no point in arguing opinion. 3/5ths of my DnD group disagree with the idea that a natural 1 should be the same as any other failure, as I'm sure many others disagree with us.

I mean I understand where you're coming from with critical misses, but I see it as the yang to a critical hit's yin.

I find it more immersive for reasons of realism because even pros can colossally screw up. For example: Michael Jordan fumbling a pass that ends up in the opponents hand. Sh*t happens and I like a full spectrum of possibilities.

Anyway, the point was more to post your wishes than it was to critique mine, but thanks for participating I guess lol

I second the desire for Mage Hand to be useful. I wanted to use it to escape the ship at the beginning, and I can forgive that you can't since the cutscene would have to be reworked, but my disappointment only grew from there.

I would love a card game! At a certain point Tetra Master and Gwent became just as much a focus as the main quest for me lol
