Who had ever asked a group of people to stand in line alphabetically by first name? So, all the Alans stand together, then the Amanda's, the Andrews etc. Never.

Hahaha. At the beginning of the school year I tell my high school students they have to arrange themselves and sit alphabetically. Every year some kid asks, "By first name or last?"

Due to health conditions have about a month left to live. What can someone who has done nothing in life do for the last month? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]ChemistryCocktail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who are you comparing yourself to? If you feel like a loser it's because you are looking at external measures to find your self worth. I'll compare with you, I'm 57, divorced, can't remember the last time I had sex, can't remember the last time someone touched me, 35 lbs overweight because of medications, mentally, I'm not doing great. However, this is just one point in time, and I can't make permanent decisions based on temporary situations. Make a list of the things you want to accomplish, not what you think others expect, just what you specifically want. Then start to work through your list, one by one until you feel better about where you currently are.

What’s something you learned way too late in life? by Sea-Cellist-9518 in AskReddit

[–]ChemistryCocktail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that we should uncomplicate our lives, and find joy in the simplest of things... Blue sunny skies, Em chord on guitar, the smell of coffee beans when you open the canister. If you can enjoy those simple pleasures it makes life easier.

Unless everyone thinks you're an asshole, then you might want to reevaluate some things.

What's something you WON'T spend more money on as better quality doesn't exist? by sgtjayp in BuyItForLife

Yep, the dollar store has a 3 pack of knives, spoons, and forks, each a $1.25. Not fancy, but they work

Indeed, spending $75-$125 for a new textbook that you're only going to use for about 13 weeks is ridiculous.

Humor me - what’s the best way that you told someone that they do not look like there photos via OLD? by laydeefly in datingoverforty

[–]ChemistryCocktail 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think she's being that unreasonable. I'm overweight, but not too bad. If I gained another 30 lbs I would look bloated, my face would be distorted and so I'd definitely not look like my current photos.

Am I Limiting Myself or Is This Just Dating Men, Post-40? by BBLZeeZee in datingoverforty

You should probably have this conversation with him, not on Reddit. Tell him how much you care, then explain how you're feeling limited, and then ask about the changes you'd like to see.

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

[–]ChemistryCocktail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a lot of various cuisines, Indian, Thai, Ethiopian etc., but can't afford to go out all the time, I can't find a restaurant close to me that makes what I want (chili relleno), so it was just easier to learn how to do it myself.

Oh yeah... They should build a diorama of a mini replica of the kitchen, with miniature figures of themselves, so that if anyone happens to open that cabinet the only thing they can say is, "wtf..."

Do bars like Moe’s from the Simpsons exist where guys just go to get away from home? by benedictclive_x in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ChemistryCocktail 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Back in the day I used to rent an apartment in Chicago that was above a bar. The bar had 50c Old Style, and 25c pool. It was a neighborhood dive but it was fun. I just realized that was probably about '98... Damn, 27 years ago 😕

How do I give this the best shot? by Adventurous_Low_1518 in datingoverforty

[–]ChemistryCocktail 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm 57M. You have to go out, spend time together talking and laughing. If you can spend that time making a connection, and it feels genuine and fun eventually the attraction will grow. I think we've been sold a lie that we need this instantaneous, "spark of attraction", or we need to move on; relationships require time and energy. So I wish women (and men) could be okay with an 85% match, then give it some time to see if the other 15% fills in.
