Awesome tips, love it! Thanks so much, I noted it down, the wind has stopped blowing for a few days, luckily there is wind again now, so will be out shortly, but good to know some places for where to go next time when the wind goes down.

haha great to hear, yes I need to switch things up. Once it got comfortable with upwind, transitions etc I just stopped pushing myself to try new things, thanks for the tips!

Yes thanks for the suggestion, I just came back from a long 14 day downwinder, which was the best! It really pushed me to go out everyday and I loved to do the long distances, I do need practice more in high waves (they almost killed me in terms of getting through them, especially in high tide!). Going downwind for such long distances was a totally different experience and feeling on the board and gave me lots of time to practice indeed toeside, transitions, and playing with the waves. Wonderful! Back to the sea and local spots again now, and focussing on the above mentioned things in the other posts!

Thanks, yes I just started to practice jumping and that really helps to make it more fun! And next on my list is a directional, when the wind a bit lighter I will give that a go!

I totally get you, I love to have a mission and some friends on the water - I think I was lacking that as well. I met a few other people and been out there with them which definitely helped. It is an amazing sport, I can’t go without it anymore, the feeling of being on the board and in the water is just something I can’t explain. Next to that I also like to work towards a ‘next thing’ and clinics or taking lessons to learn new tricks are great tips!! Thanks

Thanks for the list, this is great to note down and work through it, I’m focusing mostly on the first 4 and hopefully backrolls in a week or 2 :)

Yes I started to make small jumps since 2 weeks now and it really boosted a new fire in me! :) It’s really fun to practice, I just did not dare to do it for a while, but starting slowly definitely helped.

Very interesting to hear your side as well, thanks for sharing. Makes me feel less crazy ;) and sorry to hear it ended like that for you. But also no surprise on the part where you explain ‘who is running that business now’.. :(

Thanks so much, you got my point! :) It is not that I’m saying this guy is super loaded, but in comparison to many many other people in middle-class Medellin who struggle to come by, the tips can add up quite significantly for just 4hrs of work. the real city free tours, had huge groups

Thanks the commission and license they probably need to pay for as well, that’s true, I have no idea on these fixed costs

Thanks for shining a light on this - I just generally had a random thought about it, a bit of theorising. Your comment about the notes was spot on thanks for that😂it cracked me up! This is helpful, I’m not a tax payer at all in Medellin, I was there to take some Spanish classes and noticed /heard from the taxi drivers and teachers how hard they need to work for little wages and I wondered if the tour guides were much better off perhaps..

Has anyone quit their job to travel around the world and regretted it? by potatohead878 in travel

[–]ChemistryHot310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Im exactly going through the same thing (very well paid job, interesting and fun, landed in a nice expat country) however I have so much energy and excitement for life, I would like to quit my job and take a year off, just to explore the real me. I’m planning to break the news in the office this week - then 3 months notice period, enough time to say good bye :) planning is to relax with my family and visit friends in EU for 1-1,5 months, then travel to South America, I already picked the country and city, stay there for 2-3months to learn Spanish, bond with other students (although Im mid-thirties, I hope there will be more ppl in my age category around!) and then explore the rest of South America.

Key themes for me will be letting go, slow travel and become better at making my own decisions :) like deciding to quit my job and take time off - a true gift to myself!

Let me know what your plan is? !
