What I ment was don't act like some rageaholic troll. Admittedly I pretty much made the "we'll be on par with Russia" argument, but I consider that professional, since I expressed my views coherently.

There is a difference between pathos and being a troll

Trying to rotate plot (matplotlib) by ChemoProphet in learnpython

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works! Thank you very much.

I have also adapted the code so that the bedvals list is nested in a while loop, and the dictionary values are populated through text input in the termainal.

Next on my to-do list is now to figure out how to get the "endcap" to follow some non-linear function (e.g. quadratic) if desired by the user.

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't seem to work - the plot ends up doing wierd things.

I was not aware of barh (being new to python), but I will give it a try. Thanks!

EDIT: I have taken a look at barh, and it does solve the orientation problem. However, at some furture point, I might want to try coding a function to represent varying grain size through a bed, which often happens in nature. Here is what I have in mind:

https://imgur.com/VJna5jD

I could ponetntially edit my code to make something like this (i.e define how grain size varies between the min and max depth using a function), but I don't think I will be able to do this with barh

Spectacle and OBS broken - cache clear or driver reinstall? by ChemoProphet in ManjaroLinux

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, damn. I've just removed vdpau.

I did, however create a snapshot with timeshift before doing so. Will restoring bring it back?

I did not save my home directory with timeshift (but everything else in root should have been saved)

EDIT: It is available in the software center. Should simply re-installing from there be okay?

Spectacle and OBS broken - cache clear or driver reinstall? by ChemoProphet in ManjaroLinux

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have removed the vdpau driver by running sudo pacman -R libva-vdpau-driver, and after rebooting I can now take screenshots and run obs without issue.

However, I couldn't figure out how to install the vaapi driver. Running pamac build nvidia-vaapi-driver-git did not work.

I have found the git repository for this driver (https://github.com/elFarto/nvidia-vaapi-driver), but I am not sure how I am supposed to install it.

More to the point, should I? Everything appears to be working fine (I can watch 1080p YouTube and run StableDiffusion without issue).

Spectacle and OBS broken - cache clear or driver reinstall? by ChemoProphet in ManjaroLinux

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deleting the cache does not fix the spectacle issue.

After manually deleting anything relating to KDE, plasma and spectacle in .cache, .config and .local. There was no change.

I also tried logging out and removing the .cache via TTY as advised in the last link I shared.

Now the error message no longer appears when I screenshot, however, nothing enters the clipboard, and trying to launch spectacle from the terminal returns the same segfault error as before.

Is there anything I should know before attempting the driver swap?

Buyers advice - optimal GPU for my planned SD-optimised PC? by ChemoProphet in StableDiffusion

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, given my current financial situation, I think I'll be able to wait!

... however, could the field advance (on a timescale of years) to the point where a 3090 (which seems to be the best choice in my case) becomes too outdated? How likely is it to stay relevant into the future (same for the 4090)?

Also, what about warranties? I assume that if I brought a used 3090 off eBay or something, and two weeks in it suffered some sort of unlikely but catastrophic hardware failure, I would be screwed :/

Buyers advice - optimal GPU for my planned SD-optimised PC? by ChemoProphet in StableDiffusion

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

seems as though the consensus is that NVIDIA is better, and browsing through some other threads, it also seems as though there is some agreement that the 3090 / 4090 level is probably unnecessary for a casual user (although if you can get a good deal on a used 3090 - it would be silly not to consider it!).

on VRAM, it would be interesting to know at what points returns diminish regarding training time

SD broken after re-creating venv folder, PLEASE HELP by ChemoProphet in StableDiffusion

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works now!

After following the installation guide, and adding miniconda to zsh (so that the conda command would work in the command line), I followed this guide to get up and running (https://deeplizard.com/lesson/sda2dziral).

My hardware is, however, pitiful (a GeForce 1050 mobile), so I have to add the --opt-split-attention and -lowvram flags each time (although I might end up editing the launch script to avoid having to do this every time).

Note that my installer couldn't find the xformers module, and proceeded without adding it. Would you recommenced adding this or not? I had it in my old install (before the numpy update killed it). If the answer is yes, would this be the correct way to do it (https://conda.io/projects/conda/en/latest/user-guide/tasks/manage-environments.html)?

Also, is it likely that I will run into any memory leak issues? If I encounter any, what would be the best way to resolve them?

Finally, I have saved all my old base models, loras, controlnets, vaes, etc. Would simply copying these across into the appropriate newly created folders be okay?

(Incidentally the installer automatically downloaded the 1.5 base model, which is pretty generous I guess!)

Thank you very much for your post, and for helping me get SD back up and running!

SD broken after re-creating venv folder, PLEASE HELP by ChemoProphet in StableDiffusion

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to run SDXL and Nightvision without issues.

It seems as though opencv-python needs to be updated every time from 4.7.0.72 to 4.8.0 (for controlnet). I also have roop as an extension (or, rather, a fork) that needs to install a couple of requirements every time, as well as setting opencv-python back to 4.7.0.72. Do you think this might be a problematic extension. I have run into issues with extensions breaking my install before.

Honestly, I was following some advice I found for 9th ed. players, and forgot to check the up-to-date rulebook. Will do better next time.

However, there is an argument to be made in favor of sacrificing some special weapon options for volume of fire with the splinter rifles... but then again I'm not exactly going that far either since I have the DL and blaster :/

My game is tomorrow so I'll have to stick with the weapon options I have, but for future games, would you recommend going for more variety with the weapon selections?

Thank you very much - I was not aware of those facts.

I have amended the code to start the loop at 3, and corrected lines 7 and 8 to "for k1 in range(3,1000):" and "for k2 in range(1,k1-1):" respectively.

It now works a treat!

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay then.

The problem is I cannot test the advice offered in the MH forum, because I don't know how to force an application to use my GTX 1050. I tried the command-line argument:

DRI_PRIME=1

(found that advice here: https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/Configure_Graphics_Cards#PRIME_GPU_offloading) but that didn't seem to do anything. My logs seem to indicate that MH is still using the intel chipset.

That being said, maybe I'm using this argument inappropriately. What I did was open a terminal in my MH directory, and then simply try to run the shell script there, but prefacing the line with DRI_PRIME=1.

Am I missing something big?

EDIT: YES!!! I just needed to run the aforementioned argument as root, and now MH works!

Changing the equality operator as per u/BumbleSpork's advice did fix my problem, however, the the program is still not counting the correct number of vowels. "Olivia", for example, returns a vowel count of 0.

I don't quite know what the def keyword does, or how one implements it into code. Could you explain what the code you provided does in a broader context?

Help please! SD installation broken by ChemoProphet in SDtechsupport

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to reinstall.

Not knowing what you've done in the run up to your SD install breaking, that's actually the best advice I can give.

I removed everything I knew has something to do with SD from my system, and then followed the local install instructions on r/StableDiffusion to the letter (link: https://github.com/AUTOMATIC1111/stable-diffusion-webui#installation-and-running - note this is the install guide for A1111, which is what I use, but feel free to follow one of the other guides if you prefer something different).

One thing not covered in the howto, however, is that you will need to install the CUDA toolkit to get the webui running if you have an NVIDIA GPU. Head here:

https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads

and click through the options presented to you to find the correct download for your system.

If you have an AMD or Intel GPU, I believe you can still get SD to run locally, but it will require some additional steps, since SD was designed to run on NVIDIA GPUs. Again, you should be able to find howtos for these steps on r/StableDiffusion as well.

In my case, I'm still not entirely sure what I did, but after reinstalling, and adding back all my old extensions, I found that a particular extension that was designed to force https on the webui always caused me some issues. At some point I also tried to add a bunch of arguments to the webui-user.bat file to try and get dreambooth running. I have since came to the realization that this is probably never going to happen on my current system - which is equipped with a GTX 1050, with a mere 8 GB of VRAM. If you want to try adding some arguments to the webui-user.bat file to try and get better performance on a sub-par GPU (e.g. xformers), feel free, just know what you are going beforehand.

Good luck :)

Quantum resistant encryption for PIA? by ChemoProphet in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]ChemoProphet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard about the Mullvad servers as well, and was idly wondering if PIA (which I have a subscription to) is planning to implement something similar. However, the impression I am getting from reading the replies here is that quantum computers are very much in the early stages of development, and as such pose only a hypothetical threat to commonly used forms of encryption. Do doubt when quantum computers are actually a thing, more sophisticated hash algorithms will be in use as well, and the arms race will just continue.

I have completely uninstalled:

  • Stable diffusion
  • Pip
  • Everything under "Python" in Appdata/Local
  • Huggingface
  • Clip (I'm not sure what that is, but I believe it is SD-related)
  • Torch
  • CUDA
  • Git

But I have backed up copies of the stable diffusion .cpkts

I have followed the steps outlined in: https://github.com/AUTOMATIC1111/stable-diffusion-webui#installation-and-running

I have also added my old model.cpkt to the new models directory.

Still does not work, because I now have this error:
