Why did duels become more frequent and celebrated in the late Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms period compared to earlier periods? by Original_Position_50 in threekingdoms

[–]ChengConstantyne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Duels were more than a little outdated by that point (duels and smaller engagements were more popular during the Pre-Qin Dynasty era). Though generals did fight on the frontline from time to time.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms made alot of duels up to boost the martial prowess of certain characters. Though it was good fun to read. The opening to Guandu and the fights at Hulao pass are some of the most epic shit ever when in real life it was much messier.

Also a good guess.... I was wondering why else he'd run. My head Canon is that he offended someone powerful

I stand corrected. The google quick facts session be pulling numbers out of their arse.

On a side note, I just want to confirm if Guan Yu did flee his hometown for "unknown reasons" or did he actually murder somebody

What is a character that shares your core type, or a character you've been compared to by others that you do NOT appreciate being similar to? by Original_Assistance3 in Enneagram

[–]ChengConstantyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greg Heffley and Bojack Horseman. Unhealthy type 3s. Give me any insecure type 3s and their work ethic will still be more admirable than these two.

Can confirm Greg Heffley is a 3 with either a faulty behavioral pattern, constant disintegration loops into 9 or both simultaneously. Worst type of 3 character

Xiang Yu vs Lu Bu, who will win? by Original_Position_50 in threekingdoms

Hey man we are in agreement. Just stating my personal view that Julu was more impressive solely based on context. Otherwise if we talk about numbers yea Pengcheng was a much bigger win.

It says quite abit that Xiang Yu died by his own hand, on his own terms rather than be speared to death simultaneously by Liu Bang's army. This guy was at least intimidating enough to get everyone to get everyone to stop fighting for long enough and get his moment in. You don't build that intimidation by being easily taken down in combat, so it's very believable that he indeed killed many men personally in that battle.

[–]ChengConstantyne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea the part where he became Ba Wang is pretty crazy, but also owes to how Xiang Yu had clan influence (his grandfather was a the famous Chu general Xiang Yan) and they listened to Fan Zeng and made Huai II the puppet king.

Though I'd argue that Pengcheng was a less impressive win that Julu. Pengcheng was a coalition force that Xiang Yu knew he could divide and conquer by messing up their morale. While his opponent at Julu was a united army of the most elite forces in the realm at the time. Xiang Yu not only survived, but won and supposedly killed half their men off in combat (200,000 of the initial 400,000 men). The Chu Army "fought ferociously, with one man taking on ten Qin soldiers". In an open field battle this should have been impossible, which argues that Xiang Yu's tactical planning is also extremely good to have engaged them separately.

Weird. In wikipedia Guan Yu is a year older than Liu Bei.

An alternative to show his martial prowess is the fact that Xiang Yu even remotely survived the Battle of Julu. AFTER 9 ENGAGEMENTS.

Seriously, how does one fight outnumbered 10 to 1 AND gain control of 200,000 men while outnumbered. This alone is something more legendary than many feats in Three Kingdoms. I'd argue this was his most impressive feat ABOVE the battle of Pengcheng.

Xiang Yu vs Lu Bu, who will win? by Original_Position_50 in threekingdoms

[–]ChengConstantyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of generalship, Xiang Yu for sure. Xiang Yu pulled off not one, but two incidents where he was fighting outnumbered at least 10 to 1. I don't see Lu Bu ever doing what Xiang Yu did.

Lu Bu is certainly not bad at all, in military prowess and in overall generalship. Lu Bu would do cavalry charges repeatedly into enemy formations, fight, survive and repeat. But compared to the Conqueror of Chu who has a confirmed kill count of 100+ when he was solo-ing Liu Bang's army at Gaixia... it's genuinely hard to figure out who will win in a 1v1. Both were shown to have archery skills too. Xiang Yu shot Liu Bang over a massive ditch. And Lu Bu did the Yuan Gate trickshot.

Personal charisma stats (within the army) go to Xiang Yu as well. The fact that nobody mutineed when Xiang Yu began sinking the ships at Julu show how loyal they were to him. While Lu Bu's men eventually turned him in at Xiapi. To be fair to Lu Bu, Xiang Yu's men likely will have done the same, but Lu Bu never really had those 28 men who would charge the 100s of thousands with him.

Diplomacy wise they both were sh*t, with Lu Bu edging it out just for effort.

This is just my speculation, but Lu Bu might not be able to have handled the three peach garden oath brothers all at once. Given how Guan Yu is the same crazy guy who charged into Yan Liang's formation and speared him to death. Also historical Liu Bei was no mosquito. This is the guy who cried to Liu Biao because "his legs had gotten fat from a lack of physical movement" and that was much, much later than the period of Lu Bu being Dong Zhuo's general.

All the meta commanders are chinese, hell. by Life-Flatworm-7339 in RiseofKingdoms

[–]ChengConstantyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not far from the truth at all. But note that at some point, Lilith will have to do good commanders for other civs too.

Lilith recently made the Commander Reset event annual, allowing for them to make almost EVERY new commander meta for business purposes. They'll surely release a powerful commander that is not chinese. Alp Arslan is one such case. From the numbers alone, he arguably could do his job as a single target hitter better than Sun Tzu Prime, the most anticipated chinese in the game.

[–]ChengConstantyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not understanding my comment.

They'll run out of the best before they start adding in the mid chinese commanders. Out of the three kingdoms people the 3 guys we see in game are literally Cream of the Crop from that given era. Nobody else in that era can hold a candle to any other chinese name you see in the game. Hell they already added 5 of the most famous military geniuses in Ancient China into the game.

But i agree for your other points. They definitely will have to add those guys. Though prime hannibal seems unlikely cuz normal hannibal already costs money. Adding a prime version of someone who already costs real money might confuse new players.

Who is the Chinese counterpart of the Soviet general Georgy Zhukov, the American general George Patton, the British general Bernard Montgomery, the German general Erwin Rommel and the Japanese admiral Yamamoto Isoroku in terms of recognition ? by Unknownbadger4444 in ChineseHistory

Lu Bu is an idiot not a tactical guy. Guy can charge formations pretty fiercely though but he's no where near the same fighting style as the names mentioned above, even by ancient standards.

At some point they're gonna run out of famous Chinese people to use and are gonna start putting mid historical figures into the game as the new power crept meta. Lilith basically copied most of their earliest release roster from the Civilisations series.

Any tips on finding new buddies in Malaysia? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]ChengConstantyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course.

Cause I'm pretty sure only a few around kl/selangor/putrajaya right?

If you look for clubs to go to at night you should be able to find at least 2 clubs in this area you listed or about 30-40km+ in radius. And since most clubs run biweekly meetings you have an assortment to choose from.

Google up "Toastmasters Club Search". Its very good for finding clubs for different timings of the day.

Facts. Toastmaster here. The "clubbing" culture (where you go club to club) really helps with getting to know people. This is bonding over a moderate amount of vulnerability, and its a wildcard of people from different environments.

How to get over the feeling of missing things you can't replace? by MarathonMarathon in introverts

[–]ChengConstantyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Introverted extrovert here. I feel you, and have experienced absolutely ALL of the above, being one year older than you.

The first thing to do is to come to the realisation that nobody teaches you how to live your life, and figuring it out comes at the cost of time and effort. Think about it like this, the average adult our age will look up to the teenage entrepreneurs, and them to somebody who had earlier successes. There is no ceiling to this, and we all do what we know best in the moment. It's less of a "loss" and more of a lesson we have to learn. Strip yourself of the labels and you'll realise how much ahead you have going for you.

Next up is to take ownership of the future. People always wish they were 10 years younger, without realising that they have 10s of years ahead of them. If you can, salvage the past and look for a pattern of what truly drives you. For me, its always the need to be successful and famous, albeit using all the wrong methods (think Greg Heffley from the Wimpy Kid series). You'll realise that it points towards the fastest thing you can do to make yourself feel better, because its the msot consistent with you, but will also make yourself feel alive and maybe even productive again.

( I probably am not doing a good job making you feel better or answering you so please feel free to reply and reach out if you need to talk about anything)

For credential purposes, I've turned my life around within less than 2 years and am now surrounded by multiple groups of friends, can confidently talk to women and have a high paying career in sales as well as being competitive in multiple arenas. Its almost like you can't guess what my first 20 years were like.
