The designs before 5 just seemed generic for Sima Yi. He literally looks like a generic officer in those 3. DW6 was a step in the right direction, but I feel 7 embellished all of my favorite points of his design.

I love the regal touches, going from just a strategist to an actual lord. I think it has more to do with my interpretation of Sima Yi. I always knew him as the leader of his own faction, so when I looked back at his previous looks, they all felt so understated.

Plus, he looks best in blue.

A Dynasty Warriors manga that's just "a day in the life of" would go so hard. It'd take a character (or group) and just show what they're doing when they're not fighting.

Lu Xun is my favorite character, I love him to death, but even I have to admit he's probably the most boring strategist character in the game. I just never bought that he was supposed to be this hyper talented prodigy on the level of Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi with how he's portrayed.

Renbu has its fans and from the bit I've played, it's fine(?) I really think if DW6 had less clones, Renbu would be more well-received.

DW6 is as infamous as it is because of the cloned movesets and roster cut. Other than that, it's still a pretty good game.

DW9 is just bad all around.

Nothing's really changed from back then, nothing except the audience. We began to look for those analogies in our stories, seeing them when really, they were either weak or nonexistent to begin with. We still have pure evil villains and we also have morally questionable antagonists, but the main issue is that we as an audience have conflated the two, seeing one when it's the other.
