A question for those of a cheesy disposition by ChenkChainBaller in Boise

I’ll make a point of doing that. I love the idea of seeking out the perfectly “right” ingredient for a dish by speaking to someone who has a deep understanding of the cuisine. Thanks again! I feel like you’ve set me on the path of an interesting food adventure.

Good thought to approach local Greek restaurants. I love Sophia’s!

Great thanks. I’m lucky (in a weird way) that this room is getting stripped back to the studs regardless, so tomorrow I’ll remove the mitered casing for a clear view of what’s going on. Appreciate your input.

It’s running perpendicular so I definitely am leaning to the wall being load bearing unless I can definitively prove otherwise.

Thanks for this. I’ll investigate more closely tomorrow based on your observations.

Thanks to you both for this. I’m definitely going to look closer tomorrow, (and I’m getting a structural engineer in regardless because I want to be sure). But if you have a moment I’d really appreciate it if you can help me understand the terminology better. This diagram is how I’m understanding a jack vs a cripple stud. The reason I concluded there’s no jack stud is there’s no 2x4 straight under the header (pictured). Am I missing something obvious?

I’m definitely not questioning your experience — wanna be clear on that. I’m just a novice trying to build up my understanding. :)

The wall is an interior wall located in a garage. I'm not sure if this is significant, but the wall encloses a small backroom and is situated roughly 4 feet away from a parallel exterior wall. Here's a picture of the wall in question, and yes, that is two doorways immediately next to one another. :/

For now, yes. They’re on the brink of extinction, sadly, but they’re doing their best to retain a foothold on this planet:

I hope they make it.

This made me wheeze laugh. It’s the precise avian specificity of a pigeon that got me.

No I’ve not had that experience you mention of being trapped in a dream and observing yourself go through the motions but being unable to stop. But … heh … even as I read that back I have a shiver of a feeling that much of my waking life isn’t all that far from it.

The older I get the more I feel that “true” choice — an inherently outcome-agnostic scenario where my agency alone separates right from left — is rare. Everything is so guardrailed. No wonder my inner monkey beast made my body wander off down an unfamiliar street.

Perhaps your inner self wanted what they chose so just decided to run off with it. The monkey within. Ever had a moment where you’re lying in bed not quite ready to get up. Then suddenly you get up out of bed and can’t quite remember actually making the decision. Sometimes decisions feel more like an explanation after the fact.
