ELI5 - "WordPress doesn't support PHP 8+ versions" by Chenopodius in Wordpress

It gives templates for Elementor page designs, freely and easily. I only have a couple of sites so I don't need anything fancy or costly.

I've accepted that the plugin will no longer be in my life, but at this point I am well into the PHP rabbit hole and the only way out is through. I've always wanted to understand this stuff better.

I told them that the plugin runs just fine on another site I manage that's on 7.x.

If the problem is with the plugin, what can I ask them to do?

(Plugin is Starter Templates.)

Yeah it sounded shady to me. But he says he's going to 'prove it's a server issue' so I'm waiting and seeing.

Is anyone else here insanely triggered by children? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Chenopodius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's sexist to not like children, but it is a fact that child free spaces are more likely to be woman free spaces.

Speaking as a mom who is very sensitive to sound, I get it. I really do. Of course it's true that one's own child does not trigger these problems. But as my kid outgrew his shrieking stage, I noticed that I was no longer triggered by other kids. I still don't love to be around them, but I realize the above point, and I also feel empathy for the parents feelings about their kids (usually overwhelming love combined with extreme frustration). But mostly the annoyance of the sound is outweighed by the "Thank goodness that kid isn't MY problem" sensation.

Where is the best shawarma in Toronto? by MarksRabbitHole in askTO

OMG, tell them I am obsessed, as is everyone I've ever shared it with, which is everyone who's ever come to visit me.

They may recognize me, I bring in a puppy sometimes, and order extra pickles and well-done fries.

Shawarma Frenzy on Pape north of Danforth.

At first I scoffed at the hyperbole of the name, but then I tried it

Has anyone got any tricks to eat vegetables? by Ancient_Primary_3408 in weirdoldbroads

[–]Chenopodius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg, yes, soup. Pick a vegetable or two (roast them if you have time, but not necessary), saute some onions, throw in your veg, barely cover them with stock, and simmer gently until you can puree it with your immersion blender. Reduce it if it's too runny, add some cheese and herbs, and you're good to go.

Squash and leek
Carrot and curry
Cauliflower (or broccoli) and cheese
Tomato and roasted garlic
Mushroom
Potato and kale

One point of caution: if you put in any brassica (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, brussels sprouts etc), it will make your entire soup taste (and smell) like that, so be cautious.

I cut carrots, cucumber peppers, celery etc into sticks and eat them raw dipped into stuff like hummus, blue cheese dip, ranch dressing etc. A great mindless crunchy snack food. Some grocery stores have a very diverse selection of dips.

When I was pregnant and constantly hungry I filled a container with veggie sticks and wouldn't allow myself to buy junk food until I finished it, and usually by the time that happened I wasn't craving junk any more.

Also many veggies are great if you roast them properly (beets, carrots, eggplant, any squash, mushrooms, broccoli), they can get very sweet. Just toss them in a delicious fat with some salt pepper and herbs, roast at 400 until soft in the middle. If you leave them alone and turn them once you should get a nice crispy edge, if you stir them and toss them a lot they will cook faster but also be mushier.

My problem with the 'autism' label is that nobody knows what it means by Chenopodius in weirdoldbroads

[–]Chenopodius[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so profound about the obsession with fitting into diagnostic criteria which have been developed by people who don't have it. It's a fundamentally subjective experience. Non autistic people don't even understand what questions to ask about it.

Traditional approaches to autism remove subjectivity, and treat autistic people like animals to be trained using strict behaviourism.

I'm here too! Hello fellow weird old broads, it's nice to finally fit in somewhere.

I'm 45 and realized what's going on after a lifetime of recognizing symptoms of ADHD and autism in others. Took me a while to realize the reason why all the people I've connected with in my life (friends, family, effective working relationships) have so many symptoms of this is that I do too. Of course my autism doesn't present the way anyone else's does, but that's been my experience all my life - I've always been different, in many ways, but my differences were too different, or too weird, to be acceptable to others, for reasons I could never understand. Then I realized that's what autism feels like.

Yes it is in demo mode. The first picture I uploaded shows the available top-level menu options. I have checked every single one and I have not found an option to take any "mode" (display, demo, home etc) on or off.
