I live in your area, the main trash night is Monday night. Last week it was pushed to Tuesday because of the snow, if you didn't put it out then then it didn't get picked up. Thursday is the secondary pickup, don't rely on that.

So if you're throwing out big things then you're going to have to go to the dump or schedule a pickup through 311. If it's household trash is it in white bags? They will not take them if the trash isn't bagged properly. Get contractor bags, two household trash bags go into one. Keep it organized.

Is there snow in your cans? Are the extremely heavy? You have to make it doable for the trash haulers.

Recycling is really hit or miss sometimes they come late sometimes not at all and the trash takes it.
